Early Release QR Code

Updated form for 3-Hour Early Release, Oct 21st (Complete by Oct 15th)- ACTION NEEDED 

Please complete this UPDATED survey by TODAY to indicate how your child will be going home for our next early release Monday on 10/21/24. *If you have multiple children, please complete a form for each student. 

We encourage all parents/caregivers to have their student take their normal route home (SACC, bus, walk, kiss and ride) on early dismissal days. While these are designated as early release days- where necessary, we will ensure that every student has supervision at the school and returns home at the regular time if that is what works best for your family. 


Veterans Day

DATE CORRECTION: Veterans Day Celebration - Friday, Nov 8th

Veterans Day is approaching, and KPES will be celebrating with a special Veterans Day Honor Walk on Friday, November 8th. We warmly invite veterans, their families, and KPES students to join us at 8:30am in the Kings Park Cafeteria for a morning of camaraderie, a musical slideshow, and donuts! Help us create a meaningful Veterans Day Honor Wall by submitting photos and completing the flier coming home in Friday folders. Please email your photos to mlcrabill@fcps.edu and send in paper submissions for the Honor Wall by Monday, October 28th. We would love to feature your veteran in our slideshow!

Program Highlights:

  • 8:30am-8:50am.: Enjoy donuts, a heartfelt slideshow, and some camaraderie in the cafeteria.
  • 8:50am- 9:00am.: Join us for the Veterans Honor Walk through the halls of Kings Park Elementary.

If you plan to attend the Veterans Day Honor Walk, please let us know by October 31st using this link. Your response will help us with planning—we hope to see you there!


Math is Everywhere! Talking to Your Children about Mathematics

Join the FCPS Elementary Math Team to discuss ways to engage your children in mathematics.  During our time together we will highlight books, games, and other materials that assist you in talking about mathematics with your child throughout the day. Teaching math to your children doesn’t have to be intimidating. This webinar will provide concrete examples for caregivers with ideas to spark math joy.

Outstanding Employee Awards 

Nominations are now open for the Outstanding Employee Awards! To submit a nomination for a Kings Park Outstanding Employee in one of the categories below, please click on the title and you will be taken to the appropriate form. You may nominate an employee in one or more categories. All that is required for a preliminary nomination is a paragraph or two about how this employee demonstrates exceptional work in two or more criteria for that category. The google form link has more information regarding the criteria for each of these awards and the eligibility requirements are below.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Nov. 1, 2024.

Outstanding Teacher: Has at least three years of experience as a teacher (in any school/school district); Specialists (Librarians, music, art, and PE teachers) are included in this category.

Outstanding New Teacher: Within their first three years of being a teacher (in any school/school district); Specialists (Librarians, music, art, and PE teachers) are included in this category.

Outstanding Principal: Has at least three years experience as a building principal (in any school/school district).

Outstanding Leader:  At least one year of experience in their current position as a Schedule-C or School Based Administrator scale employee (that is not the building principal). 

Common positions in this category: Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, Director of Student Services, Director of Student Activities.

Outstanding Operational Employee: At least one year of experience in their current position as a Schedule-A or Classroom Instructional Support Scale employee.

Common positions in this category: Administrative and Office Staff, Safety and Security Assistant, Custodial Staff, Food Service Staff, IA, PHA, PHTA, Parent Liaisons, monitors, hourly employees.

Outstanding Professional Employee: At least one year experience in current position as a Schedule-B employee or other non-instructional employee in a school that supports school leadership. 

Common positions in this category: School-based Technology Specialist, Technology Support Specialist, Assessment Coach, Advanced Academic Resource Teachers, Career Center Specialist, Instructional Coach, Psychologist, Social Worker, School Counselor, Safety and Security Specialist, and Resource Teachers that serve in an administrative role in a school.

Join Us for Morning Meeting and an AAP Parent Information Session

Join us for Morning Meeting and to learn about Advanced Academics in FCPS! As an adult community we will gather first in the cafeteria and then we will invite you to visit your child’s classroom to see how we start each day. Morning Meeting is an engaging way to build a strong sense of community and belonging and set children up for social and academic success. Each morning, students and teachers gather in a circle for the first twenty minutes of the day to connect with one another through a Greeting, Sharing, Activity, and Morning Message. See first-hand how Morning Meeting is a critical part of each child’s day and the importance of being at school on time. We welcome you to join in and participate!

Join us for Coffee and Donuts in the cafeteria from 8:30am-8:45 am, then head to your child’s classroom for Morning Meeting. Pick the day that corresponds with your child’s grade level!

  • Wednesday October 16th @ 8:30am- 9:15am: First Grade*
  • Friday October 25th @ 8:30am-9:15am: Kindergarten 
  • Wednesday, October 30th @ 12:30pm: ECCB (pm only)

    Advanced Academics Continuum Parent Session @ 9:15am

Primary schools face unique attendance issues. Join us back in the cafeteria immediately following Morning Meeting to discuss the importance of school attendance during these early years and to learn about the continuum of Advanced Academic programming.  FCPS offers a continuum of services for Advanced Academics. Jamie Mucciolo, Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will review these services and how we approach them at Kings Park. Learn how we provide meaningful, rigorous opportunities in your child’s classroom.

School Photos Wed, Oct. 23rd  

All students will be photographed for school records on Wed, Oct. 23rd.  Package options from Strawbridge Studios can be found electronically at Strawbridge.net.  Additionally, paper copies will be sent home in your student’s Take Home Envelope next week.  Parents can choose to purchase photos, with a portion of the proceeds benefitting our school.  If you decide to order a photo package, please return the envelope to school by photo day. Photos should arrive in a few weeks.   Make-up photos and re-takes will occur Wednesday, November 20th.

Socktober

Friday, Oct 25th is Silly Sock Day

On Friday October 25th, wear silly socks to school and bring one pair of NEW socks to donate. Each classroom will have a collection bag. Child and adult socks welcome. Help the Lake Braddock Pyramid collect socks for those in need this winter. Donations will go to local shelters and ECHO.

Book Character Day

Thursday, Oct 31st is Storybook Character Day

Help Kings Park ES celebrate our love for literacy. Dress up as your favorite storybook character. If you like, bring your favorite book along! Be creative, but no masks or weapons.

Family Life Education Parent/Guardian Preview

Please find the parent/guardian preview presentation for Family Life Education at Kings Park Elementary in your parent Schoology account under the Kings Park All Parent Course (see picture). This preview will review how parents and guardians can access the instructional materials that will be taught in their student's grade.

PTA News

We’re looking for student-created artwork for the KP Yearbook Cover!  Submissions are due this FRIDAY October 18th.

InCourage will host our next Parent’s Night Out Dodgeball Spirit Night THIS Friday October 18th from 6:30-8:30PM.  The cost is $35/kid and you can register online.

We are looking forward to seeing you at our FREE Nature Event at Hidden Oaks on early release Monday, October 21st.  We will run two programs - one at 4:30PM and one at 5:30PMSign-up today!

Sign up here to donate to our upcoming Monthly Staff Appreciation, this time for the wonderful staff at Kings Glen.  Donations are due by October 22nd.
