fall fest

Join us this coming Friday for the annual Fall Fest! There is still plenty of space for the Chili Cook-off, so consider entering. As a reminder, all students must be accompanied by a parent/caregiver over 18. For more information, check out the Fort Hunt PTA website.

A Message from Ms. Consolla

Our Book Fair opens next week in the library. Ms. Wise, our school librarian, has scheduled times for students to visit. The Book Fair will be open on Friday during the Fall Fest for families that would like to attend.

A military family has reached out with a childcare need while one parent begins deployment this month. They are currently on childcare waitlists for their two students. The parent would need to drop-off at 7am and pick-up at 4:30pm. If you can help, please reach out to me so that I can pass along your information to this family.

We are still surveying families again to find out how students will be going home on Monday, October 21. Your response on this short form for each child that attends Fort Hunt will help us prepare for a smooth afternoon. You can also find the form link out through Talking Points.

Thank you for your partnership with us.

No School Monday, Picture Day on Tuesday

Monday is a Professional Development day for teachers. They will engage in learning sessions at Fort Hunt and across the county in the afternoon. We will see students on Tuesday, October 15 with their best smile. Each student will have their individual portrait taken. Families will have the option to purchase photo packages. Go to mylifetouch.com. Our picture day ID is EVTRHTHR9. If you are using the flier sent home last week, return it on Picture Day (October 15).

walk to school

Thank you to everyone for making our Walk, Bike & Roll to School a success. It was a beautiful morning to get some exercise before school.

Early Release Monday on October 21

Students will dismiss at 12:40pm for our second Early Release Monday on October 21.

We encourage all parents and caregivers to have their student take their normal route home (bus, walk, kiss and ride) on early dismissal days. While these are designated as early release days, where necessary, we will ensure that every student has supervised activities at the school and returns home at the regular time if that is what works best for your family. Afternoon SACC students will go to SACC.

FCPS is offering student supervision at no-cost to families for those who have childcare hardships. Students will be supervised by FCPS school-based staff, substitute teachers, and central office staff.

Please make sure you have shared your plans for how your student will go home using this short form.

Advanced Academics Information

This week, over 70 community members joined us on Zoom to learn about the ways we deliver Advanced Academic services at Fort Hunt and in FCPS. Beginning next year, full-time cluster services will be offered for eligible students (current 2nd graders who will be in 3rd grade next school year).

A second meeting specifically focused on the Full-time Cluster service referral process will be held in November. While all caregivers are welcome to attend, only current Grade 2-6 students are eligible to go through the referral process this school year.

  • Wednesday, November 13; 6:30-7:15pm on Zoom (Link will be sent out to all families that morning.)

If you have questions about these events, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Lynch at pmlynch@fcps.edu.

📚 Social Studies Basal Resources Review

FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Public review of the instructional materials under consideration — which is part of the process for selecting new resources — is underway. Visit the Community Review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person.

All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.

Save the Date: Veterans' Day Celebration & Luncheon

Mark your calendars for Friday, November 8. We will hold our annual Veterans' Day celebration event and will be adding in a family luncheon where all parents are invited to join their child for our special turkey lunch. More details about purchasing meal tickets & volunteer help needed will be coming.
