Hello Mantua Families,
There is so much fantastic learning inside of our classrooms and beyond! Our 5th graders collaborated with the Forestry and Facilities Teams for a fantastic morning of planting trees. Our little learners had a blast this week, too! Our 3rd graders explored the wild side at the National Zoo, where they saw everything from lions and tigers to pandas and monkeys. Our 1st-grade students picked the perfect pumpkins at Krop’s Crops, a local pumpkin patch with a fun vintage marketplace. A huge thanks to our amazing chaperones for making these field trips a success! Please plan to join us on Thursday evening for the PTA Meeting and Parent Information Night.

National School Lunch Week
Celebrating the Power of School Lunches
National School Lunch Week "X Marks the Tray." Karen Ray and our cafeteria staff are excited to participate in "X Marks the Tray," where students can find a sticker to win a sweet treat! Please note that only those students who purchase a hot lunch on October 16 are eligible to participate.
Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.
This School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. Also, new menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? Nutrition Services now has printable menus.
The Positivity Project
Next week, our school will focus on the character strength of Integrity. Integrity means being honest, truthful, and genuine.
Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. People with integrity tell the truth and align their thoughts, feelings, and actions. They have the courage to stick to their beliefs, even if it means not following the crowd. Integrity is closely related to honesty and authenticity.
Integrity is essential for personal growth and well-being. When your thoughts, feelings, and actions are in harmony, you can grow and achieve your goals. Being authentic and genuine makes you more likable and trusted by others, improving your relationships.
To practice and encourage the character strength of integrity at home, please visit the Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families. There, you can watch a video, read a quote, and discuss three questions together.
Thank you for your continued support!

Yom Kippur
Today is Yom Kippur, the holiest day in Judaism. May all in our Jewish community observing Yom Kippur have an easy and meaningful fast. According to Jewish tradition, Yom Kippur is when God decides each person’s fate, so Jews are encouraged to make amends and ask forgiveness for sins committed during the past year. #OurFCPS
Indigenous Peoples’ Day
On the second Monday of October and the month of November, people all over the United States celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day and Native American Heritage Month. Monday, October 14, is a student holiday and staff development day for Indigenous Peoples' Day.
