Our next Early Release Monday is October 21st. To ensure a safe dismissal for all our students you must complete this October 21st Survey as soon as possible. The survey has been updated to include information for families with one, or multiple, students. The survey includes dismissal time and how they are getting home. The deadline for completing the survey is October 17th. You will be able to make edits to your survey response, if needed, until October 17th. On our early release day, October 21st, the front office will not be able to change dismissal times after 11:00 to ensure the safety of our students. We are building our transportation rosters based on your survey responses, so please ensure they contain accurate and updated information.
Students who attend SACC will be able to go to their SACC program at the 1:00 pm early release time. Please mark that choice in the survey if your child is enrolled in SACC and will be going there at the Early Release time.
We need all families to fill out this updated survey. It is crucial we hear from everyone to create accurate rosters for dismissal on October 21st. Thank you for your attention to this very important survey. Please reach out to the front office with any questions or for assistance.
We are looking forward to hosting our families for our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday, November 21! Please save the date and stay tuned for additional details.
Celebrating the Power of School Lunches
Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.
This School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. Also, new menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.
Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? Nutrition Services now has printable menus.

All students in second grade and select students in grade 4-6 have received a testing notification in their testing folders. Some of these notifications require guardians to return information. Please be sure to return this form as soon as you can.
It is important that your child attend school on these testing days. If your child must miss school during this time period and your child does not have another ability test result in their student record, they will have an opportunity to take another ability test later this fall.
The purpose of the CogAT is to provide information about students’ developed abilities in verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal reasoning. The types of tasks included in the test are based on content that children are likely to have experienced in school. However, the way questions are asked and specific test content are not necessarily what children have previously experienced. Children are not expected to know the answers to all questions and will be given opportunities to practice sample items before taking the test. The CogAT is an abilities test, so children are not expected to study or prepare for the test the way they would for an achievement test.
Score reports will be provided to parents once results become available. Typically, these reports are available before winter break. If you have any questions about this test, please contact the Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Ms. Wilkins, or either of our school test coordinators, Ms. Sobeski or Ms. Hachwi.
