What's Happening Mount Eagle

October 11, 2024

A Message from Ms. Kirkland

Over the last few days, morning temperatures have been cool even though it's warming up during the day.  On days like these, we often find many forgotten jackets and sweatshirts on our playground.  If you are missing any jackets, please be sure to stop by our lost and found in our front lobby to claim any missing items.

Over the last two weeks, many families have been meeting with teachers for parent-teacher conferences.  Thank to all the care givers who have already scheduled or attended this important meeting. If you have not yet scheduled your parent-teacher conference, please reach out to your child's teacher to arrange this.

Our PTO is hosting their monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 15 at 8:40am in the library.  All caregivers are invited to attend.  The PTO will be sharing updates about upcoming events and ways you can get involved, and I will be sharing information about how we are supporting students on what to do when they hear students using language in school that is unkind.

I hope your children had a wonderful week here at school and that you have a great long weekend!  We will see everyone back here at school on Tuesday, October 15!

Pizza & Puzzles Night

Join the us for the second annual PTO Pizza & Puzzles Night on Wednesday, October 16 from 6:00-7:30pm in the cafeteria.  We'll have puzzles out for families to enjoy together and pizza for sale.  It's a great way to enjoy some weeknight fun as a family!

Early Release Monday on October 21

Students will dismiss at 12:30pm for our second Early Release Monday on October 21.

We encourage all parents and caregivers to have their student take their normal route home (bus, walk, kiss and ride) on early dismissal days. While these are designated as early release days, where necessary, we will ensure that every student has supervised activities at the school and returns home at the regular time if that is what works best for your family.

FCPS is offering student supervision at no-cost to families for those who have unique childcare needs. Students will be supervised by FCPS school-based staff, substitute teachers, and central office staff.

Please make sure you have shared your plans for how your child will go home on this day using this Google Form.

A Zoom link will be shared via eNotify closer to the event date.

🍎 Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance

As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.

Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.

Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
