Principal's Message |
Greetings Tiger Families!
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Each and every day in FCPS, and specifically at Twain Middle School, we work to make sure all students feel welcomed, valued, and safe. This includes not only responding promptly and thoroughly to any allegations of bullying or harassment, but also proactively teaching our students positive behaviors and appropriate peer interactions through our 4th period learning seminar lessons and embedded within our practices as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. We not only encourage, but expect, our Tigers to treat each other with kindness and to “see something, say something” if they are witness to anything unsafe or unkind.
To help develop a common understanding of Bullying, below is the FCPS definition.
Bullying in Students Rights and Responsibilities is defined as: “Any aggressive and unwanted behavior that is intended to harm, intimidate, or humiliate the victim; involves a real or perceived power imbalance between the aggressor or aggressors and victim; and is repeated over time or causes severe emotional trauma. “Bullying” includes cyberbullying. “Bullying” does not include ordinary teasing, horseplay, argument, or peer conflict.”
For more information on FCPS protocols related to bullying please visit the FCPS Bullying Prevention and Intervention webpage. If you have questions and/or concerns about your student’s experience at school, please do not hesitate to reach out to us so we can support their positive experience as a part of the Twain learning community.
Go Tigers!
Matt
