The Cardinal Connection: CPES News Delivered to You

Dear Cardinal Families,

We are excited to announce a special week dedicated to celebrating Digital Citizenship at Cunningham Park Elementary. Next week, we will be hosting a Spirit Week (see below for the schedule) filled with activities and events designed to highlight the importance of digital citizenship and promote positive online habits. As a Common Sense School, we encourage all students to participate in these activities and to use this week as an opportunity to learn more about digital citizenship and how to be a responsible online user.

With your support, we can create a safer and more positive online environment for our students. If your child has a device at home, we ask that you monitor your child’s phone/iPad/device daily, and sometimes multiple times a day. This means reviewing who your child is texting, what pictures and videos your child is taking or receiving, and what websites your child is accessing. By doing so, you can help ensure your child's online safety and well-being.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership in fostering digital citizenship.

Warmly,

Allison Hoak, Principal

Jon Kemmerer, Assistant Principal

We guide you through a presentation that opens your eyes to what is right in front of you. This program begins with a “show and tell” of “red flags” that can indicate risky behavior in teens. An educational portion follows that includes a PowerPoint presentation that touches on drug and alcohol use, vaping, mental health and behavioral concerns, risky sexual behaviors, trending "challenges," and more.

Registration is required, and seats are limited for this free event. You must be 18 or older to attend and children are not allowed at this presentation. Please email MPO Meg Hawkins (FCPDHIPS@fairfaxcounty.gov) if you have any questions.
