Tardies

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope this message finds you well. We've noticed a significant amount of tardiness to first period, which can disrupt the learning environment for all students. To ensure that our students have the best possible start to their day, we kindly request your support in helping them arrive at school and class on time.

Prompt and punctual attendance is essential for academic success. It allows students to fully engage in their lessons from the beginning and fosters a positive classroom atmosphere.

Here are a few tips to help your child arrive to school on time:

  • Plan Ahead: Set a consistent bedtime routine and ensure your child has their belongings ready the night before.

  • Transportation: If your child uses bus transportation, make sure that they arrive to the bus stop 5 minutes before the time they are set to get on the bus.

  • Communicate: If there are any unexpected circumstances that may cause your child to be late, please let the school office know.

As students arrive in the morning, the hallways can become a bustling hub of activity. Students are expected to head to the library or cafeteria in the morning or walk laps until class time. We have a two-minute warning song to let students know it is time to head to class. Some students linger in groups, chatting with friends and catching up on the latest news. However, those who don't follow expectations and get distracted by their friends often find themselves tardy to first period. When this happens, the hallways can become even more crowded, as students scramble to get to their classes on time.

We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of arriving to school and class on time and the impact it has on their learning. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We are committed to working together to ensure the success of all our students.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a punctual and productive learning environment.

Together, We Roar!

MWEE Chaperones!

Greetings!

We need chaperones to help with our MWEE (Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience). This year, Liberty Middle School 7th graders will be attending a watershed field experience on site. The experience is scheduled for Thursday, October 17, 2024 an Friday, October 18th, 2024. There will be 4 sessions over the 2 days, an AM session from 7:30-10:50 and the PM session from 11:20 until 2:10. Your student will attend on their corresponding science day.

If you are willing and able to help, please respond to Julie White (Jawhite2@fcps.edu).

Thank you - 7th grade Life Science Team 😀

Cross Country Volunteers

On Saturday 10/19 and 10/26, Liberty will be hosting cross country meets for the county. The meet will run in 2 stages from 8:00AM to Noon.  Your help is greatly appreciated supporting this event.

The first groups will run from 8:00AM to 10:00AM and the second group of schools from 10:00AM - 12:00PM.  We need 18 volunteers around the course and to help lead students on bike as the Rabbit (ahead of students) and the Caboose (follow the last ones in).   Your help with this momentous event is greatly appreciated as we welcome over 200 students from across the county to Liberty.

Please sign up for the time and choice of volunteer post.  We will try to accommodate you.

National Fire Prevention Week

October 6-13, 2024 is National Fire Prevention Week. All firehouses are open for visits on Saturday, October 12th. In fact, we're told that most houses welcome Saturday drop-ins year round, as well.

Did you know the chance of surviving a fire while in your bedroom is greatly increased when your bedroom door is tightly shut rather than open? You'll want to watch the video below that shows two bedrooms side-by-side before and after a fire. It is pretty astonishing.

Please read through to learn why you need to 'Close Before You Doze' and about other important safety measures you can easily implement. Our Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department will also provide free smoke alarms for your home.

Liberty Library Amazon Wishlist:

Please consider helping the Liberty Library by purchasing off our Amazon wish list. Students love to use these items in the library makerspace and during lunches. Additionally, if you have MagnaTiles or PicassoTiles that your family is no longer using, I would love them for the library!

Materials Review Committee

We are seeking parent volunteers to serve on our Materials Review Committee. Committee members will read or watch the texts that teachers submit for approval to ensure that it is age appropriate for students. We will also meet monthly to discuss the texts prior to completing the required forms.

Please reach out to Maggie Wickham at mpwickham@fcps.edu if interested in serving on the committee this year.
