A Message from the PTA President
Dear Hunt Valley Families,
Thank you for joining us at our PTA Meeting yesterday. There was a lot of great information shared and upcoming events happening. You can find the October meeting slide deck and budget actuals posted on the PTA website here: hvpta.ptboard.com/activity.
The annual West Springfield Pyramid Challenge is now open for registration. This is a free event open to all Hunt Valley students. The fun run will take place on Saturday, November 16 at 10 a.m. You can register your runners here or https://runsignup.com/Race/VA/Springfield/WestSpringfieldPyramidChallenge. The Fall Membership Drive Challenge has concluded and the winning class with the highest percentage sign-ups of 73% is Ms. Vanderhoff (Grade 2)! WOW and CONGRATS! Don’t forget about coming out to our 2nd annual Trunk or Treat event and dress to impress with your costumes! The event is on Oct 25, at 6pm. We’re still looking for more volunteers to decorate the trunk, and the top 3 most voted trunks win a prize! We need lots of candy and your donations would be greatly appreciated. West Springfield Pyramid Challenge Registration open and closes Oct 15!
The West Springfield Pyramid Challenge is a FREE fun run that was started over a decade ago. Students from the 7 elementary schools in the West Springfield Pyramid will run a half-mile or one-mile course, depending on their grade level at Irving Middle School. This year's event will also include a unified heat with an accessible 200-meter course for students with physical and cognitive disabilities. We are excited to invite you to explore our 2024-2025 Reflections theme, “Accepting Imperfection” at PTA.org/Reflections! Students submit their original works of art in any or all of the available arts categories and participate in the appropriate division for their grade.

What are important dates?
Oct. 16: Guidelines and Entry Forms for HVES PTA contest released on the PTA website
Oct. 21 – Nov. 21: Physical submissions accepted at the school
By Dec. 6: Local judges will evaluate entries and designate 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners in each grade division
Week of Dec. 9: HVES winners announced, ALL participants will be recognized
Dec. 13: HVES 1st place winners sent to Fairfax PTA for next round of judging, then go through State process, etc.
Will there be awards? Yes.

Blue Star Welcome Week Survey Reminder

Hunt Valley 2nd Annual Scripps Spelling Bee
Register your child for the Scripps National Spelling Bee at Hunt Valley! The 2025 Hunt Valley Scripps Spelling Bee is open to Kindergarten through 6th grade students and will be held at Hunt Valley Cafeteria on Friday, February 28, 2025, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

All interested students must register in advance for the Bee and will receive a word study list. The winner will advance to the Fairfax County Spelling Bee.
