Haycock Hello 10.14.24

red

Dear Haycock Families,

Many thanks to the Haycock PTA and parent volunteers who put on a fantastic STEAM Night on Thursday evening. The night included opportunities to learn about careers in STEAM, to interact with some reptiles and mammals, and to see the Mad Scientist in action. It was a fun evening that brought our community together.

On Thursday, October 31, we will celebrate Book Character Day.  Our Kindergarten students will parade around the school dressed as their favorite book characters, and all students are welcome to dress as their favorite book character if they so choose that day.  We ask that students do not wear masks that cover their entire face and that they bring no weapon like accessories. We will continue with instruction on that day and want our students to be able to focus and continue their learning.  Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.

Finally, we will have our second Connections and Conversations Parent Coffee this coming Friday, October 18 at 9:30 in the library.  The FCPS Neurodiversity Specialist, Kristen Haynor, will be joining us to present and answer your questions.

With appreciation for your partnership,

Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu

Heather Boyd, AP   HABoyd@fcps.edu

Krystal Styles, AP   krstyles@fcps.edu

Celebrating the Power of School Lunches

Multiple studiesshow that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.

This School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services reminds families that they are dedicated to providing flavorful, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. Also, new menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

On October 16, all school cafeterias will participate in “X Marks the Tray”, where lucky students can find a sticker on the bottom of their hot entree container randomly. This can be redeemed for our popular whole grain, reduced sugar sweet treat at the end of the lunch period. Encourage students to check their entree containers for a sticker after eating and bring the container to the cashier by the end of the lunch period to receive their sweet treat.

Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? Nutrition Services now has printable menus

Three Hour Early Release Monday 10/28 Update

As we plan forward for October 28th, you should have received an email indicating what we understand your plan to be for your child(ren). If you need to change that plan, there was a form included in that email for you to notify us of changes to that plan. On Monday, October 28, we will dismiss at 1:05 p.m.  We ask that no changes be made to the plan you have indicated for your child after the end of the day on Thursday, October 24.

Note we have a regular two hour early release on Oct 31st.  Dismissal will take place at 2:05 p.m. There will be option for afterschool supervision that day.

The dates for the remaining three hour release Mondays are as follows: 10/28, 12/9 (change from 11/25), 2/24, 3/17, 4/28 and 5/19.  Note the change in the November 25th date - it is now December 9th.  These three early release Mondays provide time for our teachers to complete up to 27 hours of literacy instruction training required by the Virginia Literacy Act.

Important Health Information Forms

Health Information and Emergency Care Forms

The Health Information Form (HIF) (SS/SE-71) and the Emergency Care Information form (SS/SE-3) provide valuable information regarding student health conditions. These forms are critical in the early identification of students who may need healthcare support in the educational environment. Along with the development of Healthcare Plans (HCP) and Action Plans, the Public Health Nurses (PHNs) utilize the information contained in the HIF to develop teaching strategies for FCPS staff in order to meet the requirements of Regulation 2104 Health Services-School Health-Related Needs.

These forms are required for all students. Enrolling parents/guardians who have a SIS ParentVUE account may submit them electronically by using theOnline Verification/Update packet.

For families without SIS ParentVue accounts, forms can be located in the Back to School packets and on the General Registration Forms page.
