Dear GBW Families,
Some families have asked for more detailed information on the curriculum that we are using in FCPS, and I wanted to share the front facing FCPS website that includes our curriculum and pacing guides. Pacing is the how and when teachers teach the standards. Each school division creates its own pacing. These pacing overviews are examples of how and when teachers organize and teach the curriculum. They are organized by quarter and by week.
In FCPS and at GBW, our teacher teams may adjust the pacing or order of units to best meet the needs of students.

October 14-18 is Digital Citizenship Week at GBW! Our students and staff will be learning and reflecting on the questions you see here throughout the week! We are proud to introduce the Digital Citizens, who remind us how to be smart, safe, and kind online. Watch for family materials to be sent home so you can continue the learning each day after school with your student. We will be celebrating with the following Spirit days as well! As a reminder, schools and families can access the Media Balance and Wellbeing Toolkit to support the healthy use of technology. FCPS will continue leading efforts to promote a positive culture of media and technology use, supporting both students and their families.
FAIRFAX COUNTY YOUTH SURVEY
6th GRADE STUDENTS
November 14, 2024
The Fairfax County Youth Survey, a collaboration between the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, is a comprehensive, anonymous, and voluntary survey given each year to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. The survey examines behaviors, experiences, and other factors that influence the health and well-being of Fairfax County's youth. The results, published each year at https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/youthsurvey, identify trends and areas of need, providing a snapshot of the county's youth and serving as a barometer of the community's effectiveness in fostering healthy choices in young people
Greenbriar West ES will be administering the Fairfax County Youth Survey on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 9:30am.
While it is our hope that as many students as possible will participate, if you do not wish for your child to take part in the Youth Survey, please complete the form linked here and return it to your child's school counselor no later than November 1, 2024. If you have already opted your child out of this survey using the Parent Digital Consent (fcps.edu) you do not need to provide additional information to the school counselor.
