Odyssey of the Mind

We have a few spots left on some of the Bush Hill Odyssey of the Mind (OM) teams. If you are interested, please email ptabushhillelementary@gmail.com and our program coordinator Maria Mlynar at maria_mlynar@hotmail.com. In your email, please put your child's name and grade and their availability during the week and weekend so we can see if they would fit within one of the teams based on when the coaches are available. Teams usually meet once a week. The OM Regional Tournament is on Saturday, March 8, 2024, in Arlington.

Reminder: OM is for all grades/ages K-6 and can be a really rewarding experience for the kids!

Also, we still need a coach for the younger team which is Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Please email if interested! One $30 OM child participation fee will be waived for any adults coaching. Coach training is provided. We appreciate your consideration!!

Impact Aid Coming Soon

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is eligible for federal Impact Aid grants due to the federal presence in our area. The grants from these programs will become part of FCPS' general operating budget. They are critical to ensuring that students receive an excellent education. FCPS anticipates receiving approximately $3,000,000 in Impact Aid funds.

FCPS uses the survey for Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students. In October, the survey will be made available to FCPS families. The survey is available online through ParentVue. Families without ParentVUE can request a paper copy of the survey from their child's school. FCPS staff will process the information with the utmost confidentiality.

Opportunity to Review Social Studies Classroom Resources

FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Part of the process for selecting new resources is a public review of the materials being considered. This step is currently underway. Visit the community review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person

All community feedback will be shared with the School Board before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.
