Principal's Message

Dear Terraset Families,

We hope you enjoyed the long weekend and are refreshed for our full week of learning this week. Please remember to mark your calendars for this Wednesday, October 9th for Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day! If your child/ren is biking or riding, please make sure they wear a helmet. Also, younger students should have an adult accompany them along their route. This celebration promotes healthy physical activity and promotes safe routes to school. Meet us at Door 5 (walker door) for giveaways from our PTO and a photo opportunity with us!

On another note, we want to share our current chronic absenteeism rate. We are currently at 6.9%, which is down from 12.4% around this time last month. Way to go families! Our goal is to stay below 10% all year. Every day that we partner together to keep chronic absenteeism down, we provide all Tigers with the environment to succeed.

Warmly,

Katie Aldridge, Principal

Dave Ickowski, Assistant Principal

🆕Terraset Site-Based Substitute Opening

We currently have an opening for an additional site-based substitute at Terraset. Site-based substitutes support all student-facing positions in the building. You must be a current FCPS substitute and have 30 or more college credits. See the FCPS website for more information about site-based substitute requirements.

🚲October 9 Is Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day

Terraset will be participating in Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 9. Make sure that your child wears a helmet if biking or riding, and that younger students have an adult with them. Be safe–use sidewalks and crosswalks to get to school. Get together with your neighbors and walk or bike together! Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day helps encourage physical activity and promote safe routes to school. We will meet at Door 5 for giveaways and we will take a picture with an administrator at 9:10.

📝AAP Parent Referral Information Night

If you have a student in grades 2 – 6 and you think they would benefit from Full Time Advanced Academic Services, please come to the Parent Referral Information Night on Monday, October 21st, 5:30 – 6:30 pm in the Terraset Library.  We will review the referral process, identify types of work samples from home, and announce paperwork deadlines.  Questions may be directed to our AART, Jennifer Szczesniak, jkszczesniak@fcps.edu.

🍂Hughes Middle School Fall Fest

Langston Hughes Middle School student council is hosting a Fall Festival on October 30th from 5:00-6:30 p.m. There will be games, prizes and a costume contest. You can enjoy free popcorn, hot dogs, and trunk or treating!

📚 Social Studies Basal Resources Review

FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Public review of the instructional materials under consideration — which is part of the process for selecting new resources — is underway. Visit the Community Review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person.

All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.
