Despite the short week, lions continue to impress with their dedication and hard work. The new Benchmark Advance curriculum is in full swing, and it has been exciting to witness students using academic language and engaging in rigorous, meaningful tasks. We encourage you to ask your children about what they're learning and how it may be different this year in literacy.
Thank you to all our parents who joined the Principals' Coffee on Monday. Our primary speaker was Mrs. Avery Straw who shared advanced academic programs in FCPS from kindergarten through high school!
We receive requests from some parents asking for additional work their children can complete at home. Your child can log into Clever from Lemon Road Student Links and access both Lexia and ST Math from home. In addition to reading independently or as a family each evening, these are two resources you may access.
FCPS will participate in International Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 9th, in an effort to promote physical activity and reduce traffic congestion and pollution near schools. Students and employees are encouraged to bike or walk to school and work where safe to do so. Parents are encouraged to accompany their children to school. Get more information about Walk to School Day.
We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!

Our goal is to partner with families to minimize the number of days students are absent. Getting your student into the habit of daily attendance helps reduce stress and makes it easier to connect with friends and teachers. We hope to increase communication in regards to absences to reduce impact on your child’s well-being. FCPS has created a Health Flyer for Parents indicating when a parent should keep their child home from school. Please review FCPS Attendance Policies and resources to encourage regular school attendance.
FCPS is closely monitoring student attendance. Families will hear from a member of our attendance team when we notice your child reaching 5 days of unexcused absences and/or when they are considered chronically absent (10% of school missed regardless of reason). At various intervals, we will develop a plan to minimize your child's time away from school.
The Lemon Road day officially begins at 8:15 AM and any child entering after 8:15 is marked tardy. When your child arrives after 8:15, the adult must park their car and walk their child into the main office to provide the reason for the tardy arrival.
