Dear Haycock Families,
This week we celebrate and show our appreciation for our wonderful custodial team. They work hard every day to keep our school clean and safe for our students and staff. Join us in showing our gratitude to them every day and especially this week.
Expect to receive an email this week confirming your plans or asking you to notify us of any changes to plans for your student(s) for our next 3 hour early release on Monday, October 28. Please respond to this email only if the plans for your student have changed. If we do not hear back from you, we will assume that the plans will remain the same as they were for the September 23 early release Monday.
For the October early release Monday, we also ask that no requests for changes to plans be made after the end of the day on Thursday, October 24th. Last minute change requests increase the chances we will make an error, and we are trying very hard to ensure that every one of our students is safe and supervised.
Additionally, for the October early release Monday, SACC will be providing afterschool supervision beginning at our 1:05 dismissal time, which is a change from September. As always, please let us know if you have any questions.
Wednesday is bike, walk, or roll to school day! It's a fun way to get exercise and start the day in an active way. If students choose to ride their bike to school, make sure they are prepared to lock their bike when they park it in front of Haycock. Remind students to come in door 1 so we can recognized them for participating in this fun activity.
We hope to see many of you this Thursday evening for the PTA STEAM Night. This PTA sponsored, family-friendly event is for all ages. Our very popular STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) event will feature Mad Scientist, plus the Animals Program by Critter Connections. Enjoy fun STEAM activities, vendor tables, and Haycock's own Capital Bots team and First Lego League team!
With appreciation for your partnership,
Liz Beaty, Principal embeaty@fcps.edu
Heather Boyd, AP HABoyd@fcps.edu
Krystal Styles, AP krstyles@fcps.edu

📚 Social Studies Basal Resources Review
FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Public review of the instructional materials under consideration — which is part of the process for selecting new resources — is underway. Visit the Community Review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person.
All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.
