Dear White Oaks Families,
When we look at our attendance rates at White Oaks Elementary School, we are noticing that absences can often be due to family trips that are planned during school days. We want to share some tips with our families to help students see the importance of attending school every day. Here are some tips for families to consider when planning trips:
- We recognize that holidays are an important time for reconnecting with families far away and exposing your children to your home and language, whether you grew up in another part of the United States or a different country. The price of plane tickets often influences when you want to travel. But keep in mind the costs to your children’s education if they miss too much school.
- Make sure your child is in school every day, right up until vacation starts. Our teachers will be teaching, and our students will be learning. But it’s harder to teach and it’s harder to learn when too many students are absent.

 The Lake Braddock Cheerleading program is excited to continue our Parents Night Out event this season! We would really appreciate your assistance in getting the word out to your students' families so that they can sign up if they want to participate. I have attached our flyer for the event that we ask you to please include in your school's weekly newsletter, we are also happy to print out copies of the flyer to include in students' folders if you would like. White Oaks Elementary PTA is hosting its second annual Eagle Trot Run on Saturday, October 26th. We'll have something for everyone. 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk: Perfect for individuals or families looking for a casual run or walk. 5K Timed Run: Challenge yourself with a timed 5K course. Kid Dash: Our youngest Eagles can join the fun without registration! Costumes are encouraged! Water will be offered on course. All 5k &1-mile finishers will receive special race medals. The sky’s the limit for our community when you join the PTA! It's no surprise that our teachers and staff have knocked this goal out of the park by quadrupling their membership. As of October 1st, we have 40 teacher/staff members and 85 family members! Thank you to everyone who has joined and we are looking for 45 more families to join so we can meet our goals.
