Have you always wanted to volunteer in the library? Now is your chance! Come volunteer shelving books, helping students find books, creating displays and organizing our amazing library. Veterans Day Signup
We are honored to invite you to speak at our Veterans Day event on November 8, 2024, at Keene Mill Elementary School. The storytelling will start at 9:30 am and conclude by 11:00 am. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to hear firsthand about your experiences and learn more about the significance of Veterans Day.
We would be grateful if you could share your story with our students during a classroom visit. Your participation would help us teach the importance of service and sacrifice.

Military Connected Student Identification
As Keene Mill Elementary works toward the Purple Star School designation in support of our military connected families, we are finding that some of our students are not listed as military-connected in our student information system. In order to be sure we have all students identified please email Amelia Couillard, KMES Office Assistant, ANCouillard@fcps.edu, with your child’s name and the affiliation which suits them best:
- Parent is a member of a United States Active Component
- Parent is a member of a United States Reserve Component
- Parent is a member of the National Guard
- Parent is no longer a member of the United States uniformed services
Having this information ensures that you and your child are invited to all military connected student and family events held throughout the school year.
📚 Social Studies Basal Resources Review
FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Public review of the instructional materials under consideration — which is part of the process for selecting new resources — is underway. Visit the Community Review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person.
All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.

CHIPOTLE SPIRIT NIGHT ON WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, Oct. 9 you can support Keene Mill and pick up a quick dinner by heading to the Chipotle on Rolling Road!
Bring the purple flyer from your Thursday folder or the digital version to the restaurant between 5:00-9:00 PM. You can also order online using the code TDYQVLM. Keene Mill PTA will earn 25% of event sales!

 REGISTER TODAY! WEST SPRINGFIELD PYRAMID CHALLENGE
The West Springfield Pyramid Challenge is a FREE fun run that has been a part of our community for decades, and this year’s event is Saturday, Nov. 16.
Students from the seven elementary schools in the West Springfield Pyramid will run a half-mile or one-mile course, depending on their grade level. This year's event also includes a unified heat with an accessible 200-meter course for students with physical and cognitive disabilities.
