It's a been a great short week at Oak Hill. For all of those celebrating Rosh Hashanah, Happy New Year! There are several important events happening very soon. Be sure to check them out!
Book Fair
Our Scholastic Book Fair is October 7th -11th. Check out details below, including how to set up a digital wallet for your student. On Tuesday, October 8th, the Book Fair will also be open until 7 pm for Family Night.
PTA General Meeting
We have a PTA General Meeting on Wednesday, October 9th from 6:30-7:30 in the Oak Hill Cafeteria.

On October 18, we are going to highlight what makes our Wolf Pack amazing - all of you! See the PTA section below to learn more information. We can't wait to learn all about what makes Oak Hill a true Wolf Pack!

Shana Tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur.
Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Wednesday, October 2. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.
Thursday, October 3, is a holiday for all FCPS staff. Schools and offices will be closed.
Friday, October 4, is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students.
Book Fair Starts on Monday!
Our Scholastic Book Fair is October 7th -11th. We still need some parent volunteers to help with running the cash register on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Please use this SignUp Genius Link to volunteer and support the Book Fair! (adults only)
Monday, October 7th - Preview Day (no purchases)
Tuesday, October 8th - Book Fair Family Night (open until 7pm)
October 9th-11th - Book Fair Sales (students can purchase items during the school day until 4:30 pm)

Join Us for "This Is Us", celebrating Oak Hill's community and Culture.
When? October 18th, 6-7:30 PM
6:30-7:30 PM - Cultural Booths in the gym representing the following cultures/countries: Nepal, Azerbaijan, Taiwan, Ukraine, Peru, Slovakia, South Africa, China, Iraq, and Iran
7-7:30 PM - Cultural performances in the cafeteria.
The PTA will have pizza and drinks available for sale. We are also excited to have Kona Ice available in the parking lot for the duration of the event.
Digital Citizenship Week Coming Soon!
Digitial citizenship week at Oak Hill is October 11th-18th ! Students will be learning and discussing digital citizenship topics such Being Kind Online, Finding Balance, Making Good Choices Online, Standing Up to Cyberbullying and Understanding Our Digital Footprint. In our Wolf News and on social media we will share tips with families to support digital citizenship at home.
Our Spirit Week will start on Friday, October 11th with a Pajama Day! More details on Spirit week coming next week!
Advanced Academic Program News
Thank you to those families that attended the September AAP Presentation on the Continuum of Services. You may access the slide deck from the presentation here.
On October 21st, Mrs. Lahr will be conducting another AAP Presentation (in-person) for families in Grades 2-6 on Full-Time Services. The content of this presentation will focus exclusively on the referral and screening process for Full-Time Services. Second grade families are highly encouraged to attend. If you wish to join us at this presentation, please RSVP here.
Important Dates
October 15th: Fall Full-Time Referrals due (for new FCPS Grades 3-6 families as of January 1st, 2024)
October 21st 2:15-3:15: AAP Parent Presentation Grades 2-6 (in-person) on applying for Full-Time services.
December 15th: Full-Time referrals due Grades 2-6. No late referrals will be accepted.

Free Immunizations for All FCPS Students
Safeway Pharmacy will be providing immunizations for all FCPS students at no cost! Parents or guardians may schedule an appointment and provide consent for their student(s). The immunization clinics are being held at Frost Middle School, 4101 Pickett Rd. Fairfax, VA 22032, on:
- Tuesday, October 8, 3 to 7 p.m.
- Saturday, October 12, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Students under the age of 19, with a scheduled appointment and parental consent, must be accompanied by their parent, guardian, or another adult over the age of 19.
Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are highly encouraged to avoid wait times. A parent or guardian must accompany walk-in students under the age of 19 in order to provide consent.

PTA General Meeting (In Person):
Please join us for our in-person general meeting in the Oak Hill Cafeteria from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 9th. We'll discuss and vote on the budget for the year, hear updates on planned events, educational programs, and after-school activities.
This is Us:
Oak Hill’s Multicultural night is back with a new name and more inclusivity. We want to highlight what makes our Wolf Pack amazing - all of you! “This is Us - Celebrating Oak Hill’s Community and Culture” is scheduled for October 18, 2024 from 6 to 7:30 pm. Please sign up to host a booth and introduce us to what makes your family special. This could include highlighting something from your culture, doing a performance (an artistic representation of the culture). We also need help with setup and cleanup, or being a general volunteer. Visit the Oak Hill PTA site to sign up to participate as an exhibitor or a volunteer. Contact Courtney Homer at secondvp@oakhillpta.org for more information. National PTA Reflections Arts Contest:
Calling all creative kids and supportive parents! The PTA Reflections Program is here, and it’s your chance to shine in dance, film, literature, music, photography, or visual arts. The theme this year is "Accepting Imperfection". Learn about the Reflections Contest here. Applications and rules are also available in the Oak Hill Office. Mrs. Dolenc will collect the entries in the library. All entries are due by December 1st. We are also looking for judges for this program; if interested, please email firstvp@oakhillpta.org.
Spirit Wear:
Flash Sale! We have vintage spirit wear from previous years available for purchase. These range from the 2024 Oak Hill 5K shirts to the 2019 Basketball Game shirts; each with a unique design created by an Oak Hill student. Sizes and quantities are limited. Scroll down on the PTA website to find and order Vintage spirit wear. Orders close on October 17, 2024.

Want to learn about cryptography? Chantilly High School's Girls Who Code Club is offering two opportunties for 4th-6th grade girls and boys at Oak Hill ES to learn about coding concepts. Ms. Payne will sponsor this group in the Oak Hill Steam Lab (room B231).
Please sign up for one time slot per student, the program is the same on both days. The program is free. If you have questions, please email Ms. Payne at hopayne@fcps.edu.
Transportation is not provided, please pick up your coder at 4:30 pm from the front of the building (door 1).
Dates are October 15th and 17th from 3:30-4:30pm. The October 15th class is full. Sign up for the October 17th class.
Chantilly High School Haunted House Event – Saturday, 10/26
Mark your calendar for one of our local area’s favorite fall events - the Chantilly High School Haunted House! Along with the Haunted House, there will be games, face painting, and refreshments for sale. Proceeds benefit the Chargers Field Hockey, Girls Soccer & Girls Lacrosse programs.
