We had a BLAST during our
Boosterthon Fun Run!
A Note from the Principal's Desk
Dear Willow Springs families,
We are ending this week on such a positive note with our fun filled Boosterthon Day. We were so fortunate that the rain stopped and we were able to hold our run outdoors. It was a great day to run! All of our efforts paid off and we met and exceeded our $50,000 fundraising goal. To celebrate this achievement, Mr. Taylor was turned into a human sundae covered in chocolate sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles and cherries!
MyBooster.com, our fundraising platform, will remain open for 1 more week for any last minute donations.
Tomorrow, all FCPS schools and offices are closed in observance of Rosh Hashanah. To all of our friends and families who celebrate this holiday, we wish you a Happy New Year! Friday is a student holiday and teacher workday. Our school office will be open.
October is busy month so be sure to check out the calendar section at the end of this newsletter so you can stay on top of all the events.
We hope all of you have a wonderful long weekend. #WillowPride

FHS Family Fest
All families are invited to the Fairfax High School Family Fest from 5:30 to 6:30 PM followed by the football game at 7:00 PM. Enjoy a bouncy house, raffles, games, petting zoo, and food trucks. Students who are there at 6:30 PM will get to run through the spirit tunnel before the game!
Upcoming Vision & Hearing Screening
Vision and Hearing screening will be held on October 9 & 10 for all Kindergarten, third grade and students who are new to FCPS.
The purpose of the screening is to identify students who need further evaluation due to difficulty seeing the screening chart or hearing the screening tones. If your child wears glasses, please make sure that the glasses are at school on screening day. Parents will be notified by letter if screening results indicate that further evaluation is needed. Prompt follow-up with your health care provider is recommended as vision and hearing difficulties can interfere with learning. If you have any questions, please contact the Health Room at 703-679-6010.
Book Character Pumpkin Decorating
All are invited to join in the fall fun and decorate a pumpkin representing a book character.
Drop off your pumpkin to the library week of October 14th-18th
Rules:
1) Decorate a pumpkin to represent a book character.
2) We prefer artificial pumpkins. Absolutely no pumpkins with carvings or holes. Real pumpkins that develop holes will be discarded.
3) Be creative in your decoration: paint your pumpkin and use glue.
4) Turn in your pumpkin and a card that lists the book character’s name, title, author of the book, and your name on the front and your teacher’s name on the back. Send pumpkins and cards to the library.
5) Only one pumpkin per student or staff member.
6) Your pumpkins will be returned the week of November 6th.
Note: This is not a contest. This is just for whoever wants to show their pumpkins off.

Students to be Surveyed on Social-Emotional Learning
FCPS is committed to supporting the mental wellness of all students. The Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener helps our students share their perspectives on how their schools and communities support them and help them develop the skills they need to succeed.
The screener is offered to all students in grades 3 through 12 in the fall and spring. Our 3rd - 6th grade students will take the screener in October.
It addresses skills such as achieving goals, understanding and managing emotions, establishing and maintaining relationships with adults and peers, and making responsible decisions. Students also share how successful their school and community are at making them feel valued, included, and supported. Screener data is used to plan programming for the division, schools, and individual students.
After each screening, results will be available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families who don’t have a ParentVUE account. For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.
Families who wish to opt their child out may do so by completing the opt-out form in the Annual Notice packet or SIS ParentVUE. For more information, please visit the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage or contact our front office
