It was a short school week, but our students stayed busy at the Academy! Be sure to check out our weekly highlights below to see what our students were up to. There is no school this Thursday, October 3 and Friday, October 4. Please see below for additional calendar reminders for the month of October.
Students in all of our Health & Medical Science courses earn the Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association. This certification requires students to be trained in various life-saving measures including CPR and AED administration.
Culinary Institute of America (CIA) graduate Chef Hanna Mae Lambert visited our Culinary Arts classes this week to share her experiences as a CIA student and do a demonstration for our students, where she made naan and tzatziki sauce.
Our Pharmacy Technician 2 students have been practicing preparing IV bags, which Pharmacy Technicians often do in hospital pharmacies. As part of the level 2 course, Pharmacy Tech students complete 130 experiential hours during the school year to earn their board certification. Through our partnerships with Giant Food and Inova, students are able to complete their experiential hours in both retail and hospital pharmacies.
Starr Mason, Field Education Leader with the Hair Cuttery family of brands, did a See & Do with our Cosmetology 2 students where she taught them all about finishing.
