Navy ES - 9.29.24

news crew

This week, our school's news crew had an exciting visit to the FCPS Sprague Center TV studio! They had the opportunity to meet with the production team and pick up some valuable tips and tricks of the trade. A big thank you to Ms. McLaughlin and Ms. Benavides for organizing such a memorable and educational experience for our students.

In other exciting news, Navy's Bookfair is off to an amazing start! A huge shoutout to our amazing Librarian Ms. Benavides, Navy's PTO, and all of our fantastic parent volunteers who have worked so hard to make this year’s event such a success. We truly appreciate your dedication and effort!

Rosh Hashanah

Rosh

Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Wednesday, October 2. That day is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after school.

Thursday, October 3, is a holiday for all FCPS staff. Schools and offices will be closed.

Friday, October 4, is a teacher workday and there will be no school for students.

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Elementary Parent Meeting and Referral Dates

AAP

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development efforts and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

FCPS offers a continuum of advanced academic services for all students in Grades K-12. The continuum of services approach recognizes unique student needs and focuses on matching services, not labeling students. Through the continuum, students have:

  • Multiple entry points for deeper learning opportunities in specific areas of need as they develop.
  • A cluster group of students with similar academic needs to continue growing in their learning.

A parent information meeting will be held at Navy Elementary School on October 7, 2024 at 5:00 PM. Our AART, Kristen Scudder, will provide information about the continuum of AAP services, explain the screening processes, and answer questions about advanced academic services.

Full-time AAP referrals and optional materials for students in grades 2-7 are due to Kristen Scudder (AART) on or before December 15, 2024. Students new to FCPS as of January 1, 2024 may be referred by October 15, 2024.

Navy Elementary’s Annual Veterans Day Program

Monday, November 11, 2024 is a holiday for both students and staff. However, Navy Elementary would like to continue our tradition of honoring our Navy community veterans. We are wondering which day (Friday, November 8th or Tuesday, November 12th) is more convenient for families to attend a breakfast and honor parade. To help us with planning, please answer the question in this Google Form if you or someone in your family is an active duty, retired, or reserve member of our United States military. Please use this link to respond by October 4th. Thank you for your service!
