National Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 9th! We are excited to celebrate Wednesday morning with students, staff, and families. We encourage families that can participate to join in on the fun, healthy, and safe choice of walking to school! We will have music and stickers to hand out as students and families arrive at school. If students are unable to participate but let Ms. Barber and Mr. Magagnoli know about a walk they take outside of school hours, they are welcome to pick up a sticker during their PE class. We look forward to celebrating a safe and healthy route to school!
From September 15th to October 15th, FCPS recognizes and celebrates the histories and cultures of the members of our community who trace their heritage to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The Croc Staff wants students and families to know they Belong and are Valued at Island Creek. We have the most amazing children and families! Results from the 2024 Family Engagement Survey discovered that our families want more chances to connect in comfortable, informal settings. This year we hope to provide families with opportunities to interact, including the “Family Friday Breakfast Bash”.
These potluck-sharing events will be held on Friday mornings before school from 7:45 to 8:20 a.m. in October and November. Families can attend together to enjoy a light breakfast and family fellowship with other Crocs in the same or similar grade levels before students go off to class at 8:20.
On Friday, October 11, we invite all Kindergarten families to join us from 7:45 to 8:20 a.m. in the cafeteria. We just ask that each family bring a breakfast dish or item to share (muffins, donuts, casseroles, etc.). If you are a Kindergarten family that would like to attend, please RSVP here and let us know what you’ll be bringing.
We will have a Family Friday Breakfast Bash for all grade levels! Please note that grade levels have a unique RSVP link.

During our movement & fitness unit students in 4th grade, 5th grade, & 6th grade completed the functional fitness and VA wellness fitness tests. All classes played noodle tag, turtle tag, or football tag!
We will start our throwing and catching stations and games during October! There are over 20 different stations during our throwing and catching unit and the students can practice their rolling, underhand throwing, overhand throwing, & catching skills.

If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call 571-642-6300.
Grades K-6
- Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Cell phones may be used on campus before and after school only.
- Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
- Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency.
On Thursday, October 31, Island Creek will have our 2nd Annual Book Character Day! Students are invited to find a great book and dress up like their favorite character. Book Character Day is a fun, voluntary activity for both students and staff that promotes a love of reading, specifically favorite book characters. We are looking forward to seeing which characters inspire our students!
Dressing up is optional. If students choose to do so, please adhere to the following so that our students have a safe and productive day.
- Costumes should not be scary nor have words, graphics, or toy weapons that are inappropriate for school
- No costume face masks
- No painted faces
Whether your child is wearing a costume or not, please remind them to bring their favorite book.

We kindly request that all lovingly used clothing be washed before donating. Mrs. Fallert will bring all donated clothing to a Title 1 school in Fairfax County which will host a November “shopping night” for families free of charge.
FCPS is adopting Social Studies Basal Resources for the 2025-26 school year. Basal resources are the primary resources used to support instruction in a given subject. Public review of the instructional materials under consideration — which is part of the process for selecting new resources — is underway. Visit the Community Review webpage for more information on how to view the materials online or in person.
All community feedback will be shared with School Board members before they vote to select materials in spring 2025. FCPS adopts basal resources by the process outlined in Regulation 3004.
