Dear Families,
We completed another exciting week of learning at the Hollow this past week. Our students are continuing to learn the routines, procedures and expectations of the school community and your reinforcement at home is greatly appreciated. The focus at Sleepy Hollow is; respect, following directions and safe body. AP Bermudez and I have visited the upper grade classrooms to review the student rights & responsibilities and give examples of what respect, following directions and safe body looks like in the classroom, cafeteria, playground and the bus.
Additionally, as we come to the end of Attendance Awareness Month, we want to share our current chronic absenteeism rate. We are currently at 15.5%, which is above our rate at the end of last school year. Our goal is to stay below 10% all year as students absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent. When planning trips or family events, refer to the FCPS calendar and try to use weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success.
As a reminder, students do not have school next Thursday or Friday because of the Rosh Hashanah holiday and Teacher Workday. Thank you for our continued partnership and work together to ensure the success of all Sleepy Hollow students.
Looking ahead, we have coming up our Trunk or Treat family event on October 30th. Please save the date as this will be a night filled with fun, treats and spooky activities.
Thank you for all you do to support Sleepy Hollow! Together, we are bulding a stronger community for our students.
In partnership,
Principal Vega and Assistant Principal Bermudez
