A Note from the Principal
Dear Daniels Run Community,
I hope everyone had a great week and is enjoying the four-day weekend. It's always refreshing to take a little break and recharge!
This week, we were thrilled to host fifty volunteers from Patient First who graciously dedicated their time to help clean, garden, and spruce up our school grounds. Despite the wet conditions from recent rains, their hard work and dedication were truly appreciated. Their partnership with us is invaluable, and we are grateful for their commitment to enhancing our school environment.
In terms of safety, we made productive use of the teacher's workday by organizing a training session with the Office of Safety and Security for our office staff. Ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff is paramount, and continuous training helps us maintain a safe school environment.
Looking ahead, we are excited about Field Day next Friday, October 11th. This is a special day for both staff and students, filled with fun and activities. Please keep an eye out for updates from your classroom teachers regarding what to bring and wear to ensure everyone is prepared to make the most of this exciting event.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and support. We look forward to another successful week at Daniels Run Elementary.
Warm regards,
Susan Mullen
Principal, Daniels Run Elementary School

🗓️ Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events
Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.
When planning trips or family events, refer to the FCPS calendar and try to use weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.
When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence.

P2 News
Dear Families,
Next week, our school community will focus on the Other People Mindset of Being present and giving others my attention. This means when we are with other people, we are present and give them our full attention.
In today's world, it's easy to get distracted by phone calls, messages, and social media. These distractions can pull us away from what's most important — our relationships with other people.
Just as plants need sunlight to grow, our relationships need attention. If we don’t give our full attention when we are with our family, friends, and even colleagues, we can't build strong relationships. It’s crucial to put down our phones and tablets and really listen when others are talking. Positive relationships are the foundation of a positive culture, and we can’t build positive relationships without attention.
To practice and encourage the Other People Mindset of being present and giving others our attention, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families. There, you will watch a video clip together and discuss a quote and three questions.
Thank you for your support!
