rosh hashanah

Rosh Hashanah

Thursday, October 3, is a holiday for all FCPS students and staff. Schools and offices are closed.

Shanah tovah to our Jewish community celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year! Meaning “head of the year,” Rosh Hashanah is one of Judaism’s holiest days and marks the beginning of the Days of Awe, a 10-day period of introspection that ends with Yom Kippur.

Friday, October 4, is a teacher workday and there will be
no school for students.

See the complete school year calendar here.

Advanced Academics Program (AAP) Information

Interested in learning more about AAP services? Come join us on Tuesday, October 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the Deer Park Library. The first 15 minutes is geared for K-6 and will be spent going over AAP services offered. We will share important information about the continuum of  AAP services in FCPS.

The second half will focus on the full-time AAP screening process (geared for grades 2-6). This information is for 2-6 grade families interested in referring a child for full-time services. Your screening and identification questions will be answered, and we will go in depth to cover the referral and screening process to support you.

Deadline: December 15, 2024

The deadline closes for full-time referral submissions. No referrals will be accepted after December 15, 2024.

More information and referral forms can be found at this link.

Therapy Dog Visit

bear

Meet "Bear" from Heeling House where all dogs are specifically and carefully trained to be therapy dogs and have passed their certifications. Bear visited last Friday to the delight of students and staff alike!

A therapy dog will visit each week and classes will have the opportunity during the school year to spend 15 minutes in Bucky's Rest Stop asking questions about the dog, seeing some tricks and getting to pet the dog if they would like to participate.
