🍔Important Herndon ES Food Policy Reminder

Dear HES families,

We need your help. Recently we have seen an influx of outside food (Chick-fil-a, Wing Stop, Moe’s etc.) being delivered or dropped off for students. This causes additional work for our office staff and can create jealousy among students. Additionally, we are cautious of allergies.

Please do not drop off outside food for your child or set up an Uber Eats/Door Dash type delivery.

The exception is for a special occasion; if you bring outside food, please stay with your child during their lunchtime. Do not bring additional outside food for friends in the class.

As always, thank you for your support.

Warmly,

HES Administrative Team

Mrs. Candace Hunstad
Mrs. Elizabeth Baxter
Mr. Greg Brotemarkle
Mrs. Elizabeth Scheurer
Mrs. Jennifer Skerker

🗓️ NO School October 3rd and 4th

Rosh Hashanah begins at sundown on Wednesday, October 2. That day
is an evening-only observance day. Important events will not be held after
school.
Thursday, October 3, is a holiday for all FCPS staff. Schools and offices
will be closed for Rosh Hashanah.
Friday, October 4, is a teacher workday, and there will be no school for
students.
See the complete school year calendar and employee calendar.

📝Deadline for Ability Testing Retest Option

FCPS offers an ability test to all students (universal screening). In Fairfax County students in 1st grade take the NNAT (Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test). Students in 2nd grade take the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test).

One-time Retest Option
• Parents/Guardians may request the one-time retest of an ability test by
contacting the school testing coordinator Cheryl Day CLDay@fcps.edu
• This is only for students who already took that assessment in a previous
year/grade.
• Notify Cheryl Day ASAP because CoGAT testing begins the second week of
October.
