This past month, our Whitman Middle School students truly embodied our values of kindness, leadership, and community spirit. We are thrilled to share that our students continue to shine in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program! Throughout September, many students have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the IB’s core values of inquiry, knowledge, and global-mindedness.

IB Learner Profile in Action: Whether it’s through group discussions, community projects, or independent research, our students have been embodying the IB Learner Profile traits such as being reflective, open-minded, and principled. We are especially proud of their collaborative spirit in tackling complex global issues.
What’s Next? October promises to be another exciting month for our IB students, as they continue to explore interdisciplinary projects and further develop their critical thinking skills. We can't wait to see what innovative solutions and inspiring ideas they’ll come up with next!
Keep up the great work, Whitman IB students—we are proud of you!

Did you know that Whitman Middle School is an IB School? The International Baccalaureate Program is a system of frameworks and classes in their various programs; we at Whitman are in the Middle Years Program (MYP) which is a framework. Every Whitman student is IB, every student is learning in an IB way, and every staff member is receiving IB training. IB takes a holistic approach and strives to produce kind, globally aware and service-oriented students. The MYP focuses on inquiry, exploration, and learning skills such as communication, research, social skills and reflection. When students get to Mount Vernon HS they continue with the MYP in 9th and 10th grade and then their junior year are able to start taking specific IB classes and potentially receive an IB diploma. Not every school in Fairfax County is an IB school, so this is an element that sets Whitman and Mount Vernon apart. If you have questions please reach out to Phoebe Suarez, IB Coordinator at Whitman MS (psuarezdelre@fcps.edu). |
We are looking for pictures of students playing sports outside of school to include in this years yearbook. If you have any pictures you can share, please email them to Lindsey Miller at lmiller2@fcps.edu.
Eighth-grade parents: If you missed the chance to order last year's yearbook but would like one, you can now purchase them using MySchoolBucks. If you have any questions, please contact Lindsey Miller at lmiller2@fcps.edu. We still have some available for purchase.
