Cub Run News

Cubbie Corner

Dear Cub Run Families and Friends,

We want to thank you all for your help and support during our first Monday early release! We appreciate your communication and partnership in helping to get all of our Cubbies safely home on Monday.

For those interested in learning more about Advanced Academic Programs (AAP), join us for our Information Night on September 25 from 6:00-7:00 PM. Naomi Egerton Baker, our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher, will provide a comprehensive overview of AAP services, identification processes, referrals, and important deadlines. Please see more information below.

As we shared at Back to School Night, we will be hosting a literacy parent information session on October 9 at 6:00pm in the Cub Run cafeteria. Diane Leipzig, Principal in Residence for the Equitable Access to Literacy Plan, will present literacy updates for the 2024-2025 school year, including the new curriculum, Benchmark Advance and how it aligns with research, the literacy assessments we will use, the extra help some students will receive to ensure all students are successful, and what you can expect on the elementary progress report for language arts. We hope you can join us!

Warm regards,

Melissa Miller & Nausheen Haider

Cub Run C.A.R.E.S.

As we shared in August and at Back to School Night, our school has been focused on our school-wide C.A.R.E.S. expectations since we kicked off our 24-25 school year. This year, Cub Run will be utilizing a positive behavior approach which includes responsive classroom and positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS). Using a common framework to build a constructive school climate, a positive behavior approach explicitly teaches and encourages all students to engage in specific behaviors. Our school-wide matrix provides clear and consistent expectations for each of our settings. We encourage you to ask your student about what C.A.R.E.S. means and what it looks like in our hallways, bathrooms, at recess, and in our cafeteria.

Behavior Matrix

You may have heard about our golden C.A.R.E.S. tickets as we kicked off the school year focusing on our hallway behavior. You can see our hallway expectations included in our visual below. Our Cubbies can share how their classes have earned golden tickets!

We appreciate your partnership and support in fostering a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for all of our Cubbies.

Principals’ Walking Club

Our Principals’ Walking Club will kick off in October on Friday, October 11 from 8:05-8:25AM. We hope to see you on October 11!

Reminders

Positivity Project

Cub Run is entering its 8th year as a P2 Partner School! This means that we implement a school-wide social emotional program called Positivity Project. P2 helps our students build positive relationships by recognizing and developing their character strengths. Teachers kicked off P2 this week during morning meeting with our “Intro Week.” After that, we will introduce and focus on a new positive character trait or mindset each week. “P2 for Families” is a great resource you can use at home to discuss the importance of character strengths and positive relationships. For more info click here: https://posproject.org/p2-for-families/.

Blue Star Welcome Week

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

National Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15 to October 15, FCPS recognizes and celebrates the histories and cultures of the members of our community who trace their heritage to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Learn more about the heritage months, celebrations, and traditions celebrated in FCPS. Learn more about National Hispanic Heritage Month
