Dr. Christine Ritter, Principal

A Message from Principal Ritter

Dear Kings Glen Families,

Welcome to October!  As we settle into new routines at school, we trust the same is happening at home. We appreciate how each of our families continue to partner with us by making sure your child attends school each day and is ready to learn when they come to school.

Here are several things each of you can do to continue to assist your child being ready to learn each school day:

  • Establish calming bedtime routines. Children in grades 4-6 should be getting 9-12 hours of sleep per night. Research shows that children who get enough sleep show improvements in: Attention, Behavior, Learning, Memory, Emotional regulation, Mental health, and Physical health.
  • Turn off all devices at least 1-2 hours before bed and charge the device out of reach of your child.  We all know children can be sneaky at times and will give you all kinds of reasons as to why they need their device.
  • Ensure that your child gets to school on time each day. We begin each day with a morning meeting and that is a vital time for your child to make connections with their teachers and classmates.

Calendar Reminder: No School on October 3 & 4

A reminder that there is no school on Thursday, October 3rd in observance of Rosh Hashanah, and Friday, October 4th due to a teacher workday.  Have a wonderful weekend with your family and friends!

Pick-Ups @ Dismissal

If you are picking up your child at dismissal, please be sure to go through our dedicated Kiss and Ride loop each time. We have received calls from the community about parents waiting in their cars along the streets and making illegal U-turns on Clydesdale and Danbury Forest Drive.

In addition, if there is a change in your child’s afternoon transportation routine, please email KGNotes@fcps.edu by 2:45 PM. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

6th Grade Thinking Lab Supplies Needed

Help us blast off to new heights! In 6th grade Thinking Lab, students are using the Engineering Design Process to design rockets project. We are in need of some supplies to make the rockets:

  • 2-liter bottles
  • Thin cardboard
  • Duct tape

Your contributions will help us build amazing rockets and learn about science and engineering. Thank you for supporting our project!

Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When planning trips or family events, refer to the FCPS calendar and try to use weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence.

Watch this video with tips on understanding the FCPS school year calendar and visit the Attendance webpage for additional information. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!

The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 4: Equitable Access to Opportunities

FCPS’ 2023-30 Strategic Plan sets five main goals to create positive change in the division. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.

The fourth goal ensures all students have the same access to opportunities, no matter what school they attend. This includes academics and other programs that inspire and engage students and allow them to explore their passions and talents. See how Goal 4 is being put into practice.

FCPS Cares

FCPS Cares is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story so we can all acknowledge the good work of our Kings Glen Elementary School staff members.
