Dear Olde Creek Families,

While this week may have been a bit rainy, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for brighter skies ahead!

We also want to extend another heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in our Laps for Learning event last weekend. We loved seeing everyone! If you’d still like to contribute, donations will be accepted until October 1st.

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting our Blue Star Breakfast. See below for more information about this amazing morning. We also loved seeing all of our Bear's smiling faces for Picture Day today!

We look forward to another wonderful week ahead!

Sincerely,

Courtney Korb, Principal
Alison Butler, Assistant Principal
Stephanie Kaminsky, Assistant Principal

Blue Star Breakfast

We enjoyed connecting with many of our military connected families at our Blue Star welcome breakfast.

Families had the opportunity to “post their posts” on our military map.

For military families that were not able to attend, we invite you to come for a lunch visit or other time to add your posts to the map. It really helps our school community honor and appreciate the sacrifice of our military families.

Stay tuned for information our Veteran’s Day breakfast and celebration on Friday, November 8.

Community Conversations

🎤 Our Schools, Our Future: Register Today for a Community Conversation!

Events will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Childcare and language interpretation services will be provided.

2024 Student Rights and Responsibilities

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R

Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Monday, September 30

You can submit questions online regarding the SR&R.

Attendance Matters

🗓️ Attendance Tip: Scheduling Family Trips or Events

Good attendance is an important life skill that will help students succeed in school and beyond.

When planning trips or family events, refer to the FCPS calendar and try to use weekends and school holidays. Every day of learning is a day toward success. Keep in mind that absences add up quickly. Students absent 10% of the school year (or just two days per month) are considered chronically absent.

When possible, schedule appointments for your child outside of school hours. If your child needs to miss school because of an illness or another reason, you must report the absence. You can report absences by submitting it in ParentVUE, emailing OldeCreekElem.Attendance@fcps.edu or calling 703-426-3192.

Watch this video with tips on understanding the FCPS school year calendar and visit the Attendance webpage for additional information. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
