Message from the Principal

Powell families,

Thank you for your patience as we kicked off our first Early Release Monday of the school year this week. We appreciate your understanding as we adjust to this new schedule. We will be reaching out in the weeks ahead to gather intentions for the October 28th Early Release Monday. Stay tuned!

Blue star

On behalf of all of us at Powell we thank our military connected youth and families for your service. We were honored this week to recognize Blue Star Welcome Week, a nationwide campaign to build a better sense of belonging and community for military connected youth and families. We appreciate the time shared by our Powell military connected families that joined our administrative team for a special breakfast this past Wednesday. We plan to host quarterly gatherings for our military connected families and will be shared information about those events throughout the year.

Warmly,
Jamie Luerssen
Principal

Family Book Club

Book club

We will kick off our Fall Family Book Club in October with Hena Khan's book Zara's Rules for Record Breaking Fun! Family Book Club is an opportunity for you to read through a novel as a family. Each participating family will receive a copy of the book to read together. Reading guides will come out in the Puma Press to help us all enjoy the book together. We will have an event to celebrate finishing our novel on November 7th. CPES students who participate in Family Book Club will be entered into a lottery for one of the 12 spots to have lunch with Hena Khan during her visit in December! Fill out the Family Book Club Form by September 30th https://forms.gle/UptQX6bQu6wmu6rr8 to join and make sure you get your family's book. Email Mrs. Sejas (masejas@fcps.edu) with any questions. Happy Reading!

Library Notices

Today we will be sending out our first e-notice for library books currently checked out to students. Notices will come out at the end of every other month or before a holiday. They will be sent to the email addresses that are listed in SIS. The purpose of these notices is to help students keep track of the books that they have checked out. Notices are not meant to cause stress, if students are still enjoying their books, they are encouraged to renew them and return them when they are finished. If you think a book has gotten lost or damaged, please reach out to library staff.

We are excited to announce that our Annual Kindergarten Book Character Day Parade will be held on October 31st at 9:40 AM.

Kindergarteners are encouraged to dress up as their favorite book character. Costumes must be school-appropriate and cannot include toy weapons. Costumes are permitted for kindergarten only.

Parents of kindergarteners are invited to join us by lining the sidewalk along the Kiss & Ride parking lot. The students will parade around the exterior of the building, where they will be cheered on by all of our students and parents.
