LRES Community News 9.22.24

Message from Mrs. Castillo

Learning

We had an incredible week of learning at Lemon Road, where our students dedicated themselves to sharpening their reading, writing, math, science and social studies skills. As we visit all of our classrooms throughout the building, we're consistently impressed by our students' creativity, focus, and work habits.  That's quite the compliment for only being five weeks into the school year - a true testament to the quality of teachers here at LRES and our amazing student community!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first PTA meeting of the year. Ms. Ulsh was able to share our practice around Student Rights & Responsibilities and we discussed upcoming fall events - don't forget to purchase your spirit wear!

Finally, we have our first 3-hour Early Release tomorrow. Students will have a modified instructional schedule. All students will have a full lunch block and our typical menu will be available though it will be earlier than usual.  Dismissal will begin at 11:55 AM.  Parents should have received confirmation of their child's plan by Talking Points late last week.

Launching Second Step

Lemon Road is one of many schools using a new SEL Curriculum this year across all grades.  This will replace Positivity Project as our former method for teaching character development.  See the graphics below for an overview to the Elementary (K - 5) and Middle School (6-8) curriculum.  Throughout the year, I will highlight areas of focus through this newsletter and classroom teachers will send information home in their weekly communication.

Stream Clean Up on Tuesday

Stream Clean Up

Come help Lemon Road ES clean up our local stream on Tuesday from 3:30 - 5:00. We will be working along the stream, so please bring water bottle, boots, long pants, and consider long sleeved tops. We will also have folks working on the pollinator garden, so come for some fun!

Please have an adult (parent/guardian/friend’s parent/18+ year old relative) come with you. We’ll meet at the top of the hill. This is a service hour opportunity for all 6th graders! ~ Mrs. Busch and the Eco Defense Squad
