Atoms Athletics Recap
Golf took on the defending district champion Edison Eagles Tuesday afternoon in the rain at Pinecrest. The Atoms played as well as they could in the elements but were no match for the Eagles as they ran away with the match to get the win. The Atoms hit the final week of their season with senior night Wednesday afternoon vs Mt. Vernon.
Girls Volleyball played two district games this week. First up was Lewis. The match was an exciting back and forth affair but ultimately the play of several atoms and the team overall led their first district win on the season! Game two had the Atoms on the road at TJ Wednesday evening. The Atoms played each set close but couldn't close out to fall short in their match. Freshman and JV continue to get better with the freshman falling in three sets at Lewis while JV got their first win of the season! The Atoms serve it up Monday when they return home to host Edison.
Boys Volleyball looks to be hitting their stride as they won both their district matches this week. Game one saw the Atoms play host to TJ Monday evening. The Atoms were dominant throughout winning the match 3-1. Not much time for rest as the Atoms traveled to Lewis the next evening and held a commanding 2-0 lead before allowing Lewis to fight back and force a fifth set. The Atoms ultimately prevailed but not without sweating it out. The Atoms load the bus up and travel to Edison Monday evening.
Field Hockey is starting to heat up as they prepare for the final few weeks of the season. This week saw the Atoms dominate their two matches, running away from Alexandria City and Falls Church. The Atoms scored early and often to walk away from AC with a 5-2 win. The next night was a pivotal district game against Falls Church. After the dust had settled, the Atoms proved why they are the team to beat in the National District with a 5-1 win. The Atoms return home Monday evening with a non-district game vs Centreville.
Football traveled to Falls Church Friday evening for a matchup in the Beltway Bowl game. If you weren't in attendance then you missed out on an exciting back and forth game between the Atoms and Jaguars. The Atoms went up 7-0 early only to see FC score twice to make it 15-7. The Atoms scored to tie the game at 15 and I could keep doing this but it would be repetitive as both teams traded touchdowns for the remainder of the game. The game ultimately came down the fourth quarter that saw the Jags hold a 36-35 lead with under 6 minutes to play. The Atoms took the ball on the 25 and marched down field to score and make it 42-36 with two minutes to play. On 4th and long the Jags scored on a hook and ladder that took perfect execution to unfortunately put them on top 43-42 to win the game. The Atoms played a great game and should hold their heads high as they prepare to welcome Bishop Ireton to campus next week for HOMECOMING!!
Boys and Girls Cross Country battled the rain and muddy trails Wednesday evening at South Run. The boys team competed well and gave some incredible efforts in the elements, led by freshman Michael Gomola and his third place finish. The girls team were led by Arianna and Cena with their fourth and twelfth place finishes respectively. Both teams continue to hit team best times as they hit their mid season strides. The Atoms lace it up and run a difficult Oatlands course in Leesburg today.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help
Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!
For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Odessa Murray.
