A Message from our Administrators
Happy Friday Hunt Valley Families,
It has been a busy week here at Hunt Valley. We had our first early release Monday, which provided our teachers with additional time for training and planning. On Tuesday, we had our first PTA meeting of the year. It was so wonderful to see over 60 PTA members online attending this meeting. Thank you to our PTA board for organizing such an informative meeting. Wednesday evening, we welcomed our families into the building for Back to School Night. Thank you to all the parents and families that attended even though it was raining. This time provided families with an opportunity to spend time in the classroom and learn about updates to the reading and math curriculum.
Last Friday the PTA sponsored Dinner and an Outdoor Movie night on the field. The weather was delightful, and it seemed like everyone enjoyed the movie! Our next PTA events are the Fall Book Fair next week and the Fall Festival on Friday, September 27th. Please see the PTA newsletter from yesterday for details.
Next week is Blue Star Welcome Week! This is a time when our school community welcomes our new families. Please see the additional information below.
We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Keieownna Hightower, Principal
Chrissy Gibbs, Assistant Principal
Eric Kopacz, Assistant Principal

Blue Star Welcome Week
Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.
Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

West Spingfield HS Homecoming Parade
West Springfield High School’s SGA homecoming committee invites all staff, students, parents, and the community, to their annual homecoming parade. This event features a variety of floats, performances, and the wonderful students that make up our school. This is a great opportunity to have your students experience all the school spirit. This is a special event for our school and community, and we would be honored if you were a part of the celebration.
🩹 Immunization Requirements
Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You may check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to your school’s front office.
Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to your school’s front office, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:
- A health care provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
- A health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
- A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with their religious tenets or practices.
Find more information on immunizations.
