Principal's Message

Thank you to our High School families who joined us for Back-to-School Night last evening. We always appreciate the opportunity to connect.

Next week is Homecoming Week. Please note that on Friday, September 27, 2nd and 8th periods will be flipped for the High School Pep Rally during the last block of the day. Later in the afternoon, we'll have our annual parade through the neighborhood, ending at Bite of Braddock on the blacktop. Please remember that the marching band will perform after the game due to the homecoming activities at halftime. We hope to see you there!

Go Bruins!

Lindsey Kearns

blue star welcome

Blue Star Welcome Week

Every year, approximately 600,000 military-connected families relocate. Most of these families move to new duty stations, while some transition out of the military and others transition in. Most of these moves take place over the summer, and Fairfax County Public Schools is committed to ensuring our military families feel welcomed and a sense of belonging to their local community.

Blue Star Welcome Week is an opportunity for our community to welcome our military-connected families and show them our appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Throughout the week, FCPS will help ease their transition through events, messages, actions of welcome, and opportunities to make meaningful connections. Please help us welcome our military families during Blue Star Welcome Week, September 21 - September 29, 2024, and throughout the year! #BlueStarWelcomeWeekFCPS

Heritage Month Celebrations

Throughout the year, LBSS celebrates various heritage months. This year, we are partnering with our student affinity groups to design our experiences, so the way these are celebrated may vary from month to month. This month, our Hispanic Student Association worked with us to develop a playlist for passing music, a display case of notable figures by Door 1, and some Advisory experiences throughout the month. We look forward to continuing our work with the student affinity groups to build a strong, student-driven community partnership.

Important Reminders

Reflection and Silent Space Accommodations

As we begin a new school year, let’s be mindful of the Expectations for Meditation and Silent Reflection Accommodation Regulation. This new regulation was developed last Spring to ensure that students and staff, regardless of religious backgrounds, have reasonable accommodations and access to meditation and silent reflection spaces within their school or building. This effort aligns with the FCPS’ commitment to providing students and staff with a welcoming, inclusive, and culturally responsive work environment.

Students are only permitted to use Meditation and Silent Reflection rooms during instructional time when a request cannot be accommodated in any other way that does not impact instruction. Parents/caregivers must provide written permission for students to miss instructional time regularly.

If you would like to give permission for your child to miss instructional time for prayer or meditation, please complete this form.

The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 2: Safe, Supported, Included, Empowered
