How to Report an Absence Through ParentVUE

Did you know?

  • Regular school attendance in elementary school improves the chances that your child will read on grade level.
  • Chronic absenteeism (missing 18 or more school days per year) is a primary cause of lower academic achievement even when the absences are "excused" or understandable.
  • Students who attend 90% or more of the school year are more likely to graduate from high school on time.
  • Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with schoolwork, dealing with peer conflicts or facing some other potentially serious difficulty, and help is available.

Saxon Service

Students can earn an hour of service credit during school! The first Saxon Service of the school year is Fri, Sept 27 in the Cafeteria during Saxon Time. Saxon Service offers interested students the opportunity to engage in a variety of service learning projects while earning one hour of service learning credit. Options include:

Making bracelets to support Reading students at a Title 1 school

  • Playing freerice.comto help world hunger
  • Crafting beads from recycled cereal boxes for a school in Haiti

All students are encouraged to participate! While not required, students are encouraged to participate in some kind of service while at Langley. It's an opportunity to relax, socialize and reap the positive social-emotional benefits associated with helping others. Students with at least 40 hours of service during high school (10 hours per year) are eligible to earn a Service Cord to be worn at graduation.

For questions about Saxon Service or if you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer contact Julie Zimmerman Hohl at jbzimmerman@fcps.edu

World Languages Credit by Exam

Based on the results of the exam, they can earn 1, 2, and/or 3 passing world language credits. If that language is one of the languages listed below, consider registering your student for the World Languages Credit by Exam!

The 2024 World Languages Credit by Exam will be administered at Langley High School on November 6th at 8 AM in Room 2346 (Ms. Terry).

Registration closes on Friday, October 4, at 4 p.m. Late registrations will not be accepted.

Please contact your student’s school counselor to register for the exam.

More information, including the list of languages offered on the exam is available online.
