PTA Updates for September 19th

Science Olympiad

Grades 3-5: Join Dranesville's Science Olympiad Team.

Deadline is Sept. 27!

Dranesville Elementary PTA invites students in Grades 3-5 to join our first Science Olympiad team. Students will compete in Division A of the Virginia Science Olympiad Tournament. Tournament events focus on activities like building a propeller car, astronomy, fossils, or working together to create a Rube Goldberg device. Learn more here: https://www.virginiaso.org/div-a.

  • Team limit of 15 students!
  • Students compete in assigned events at the Science Olympiad tournament (Tournament will be held from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Oct. 26 or Nov. 6)
  • Info on team meetings posted soon. Students can work on their assignments at home as well.
  • No fee to join; may be some costs related to tournament travel and supplies.

New this Year! Reflections Art Contest

Save the date! Dranesville will be accepting submissions to the Reflections Art contest, a program sponsored by the Virginia PTA and National PTA. Students are encouraged to submit theme-based artwork in the categories of literature, visual arts and accessible arts.* This year’s theme is Accepting Imperfection

Chick-fil-A Spirit Night - TONIGHT - Thursday, September 19, 2024

Spirit Day

Come support Dranesville at the North Point Village Chick-fil-A on Thursday, September 19th from 6 AM - 10 PM, by placing a mobile pickup, dine-in, drive-thru or curbside order. When ordering in the store or drive-thru, let the team member know you are here for the spirit event. A donation of 25% of mobile sales ordered through the app will be given to Dranesville. The code is DRAGONS (all caps).


Before and After School Programs

MLS GO Soccer League

We need 2 more to hold our Tuesday session!

MLS GO is Major League Soccer’s recreational youth soccer program, with the mission of creating an inclusive and elevated experience for all participants.

The first half of the session will be instructional (practice time), and the second half will be 5 on 5 competitive games. We will be hosting a school vs school event at the end of the session, with participating elementary schools including:

  • Brookfield ES
  • Aldrin ES

Cost: $160

Grades 1-3:Tuesdays, 4:25 - 5:25 p.m., Sept. 24 - Nov. 19

Grades 4-6:Thursdays, 4:25 - 5:25 p.m., Sept. 19 - Nov. 21

Chess Club Hosted by Magnus Academy

Learn chess with Magnus Academy, the five time world champion’s academy! Class time is divided between lessons and practice games. Lessons range from the basic rules to advanced tournament strategies.

Therapeutic Arts Science & Growth Mindset: October Workshop

Fall 2024 Curriculum: Art of Doodling, Watercolor Wildflowers, Mystery Science, Self Compassion, Power of Poetry, Acrylic Art Game

When: Wednesdays, October 9 - November 16, 2024, 4:15 - 6:00 p.m.

Ages: 6-12

Herndon Childrens’ Chorus

Herndon Children's Chorus

Does your child love to sing? Do they show an interest in and joy for music? The Herndon Children’s Chorus is  a NEW ensemble for youth ages 8-12 that will help young singers express themselves musically and develop their vocal skills and musical knowledge. Performance opportunities will be available throughout the year at community events, concerts and special occasions.

Rehearsals: Mondays 6-7 PM starting September 16th at the Herndon Community Center

Calling All Adventurers! Boys and Girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade, join us for Cub Scout Pack 1577's Back to Scouting Night on September 25th from 6:00-7:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Trinity Presbyterian Church! Whether you're new to scouting or returning for another great year, this night is the perfect opportunity to discover the fun, friendships, and exciting adventures that await in Cub Scouts. Let's kick off the scouting season together!
