Navy Update - 9.15.24

fish

Navy students and staff truly outdid themselves with a special project! Each year, Navy's SCA raises funds for a school initiative, and many of our beautiful murals have come from these efforts. Last year's funds were dedicated to beautifying our cafeteria walls, and the transformation is incredible!

Over the summer, Ms. Jimenez and local volunteers carved dozens of wooden fish to adorn the cafeteria walls. Under the expert guidance of our art teachers Ms. Smart and Ms. Corey, groups of students worked together to paint the fish.  Instead of each student designing a fish individually, groups of students collaborated to add layers of color and decoration, making each fish both unique - a true result of teamwork and creativity.

Last week, the fish were installed behind a stunning tidal blue backdrop, and the results were amazing! This project is a beautiful reminder of the power of collaboration and what our students can achieve when they work together. A plaque will be added to commemorate this project, serving as a lasting reminder of what Team Navy is capable of.

Navy's First 3-Hour Early Release Day is 9/23

early release

The first of our 3-hour early release days will be next Monday, September 23rd. Students will dismiss at 12:30 PM. As of Friday, over 96% of families have responded to the survey sent home.  If you haven't responded yet, there's still time! Simply send the paper survey with your child to their homeroom teacher.

FCPS announced late last week that SACC will be available for the 3-hour early release beginning in October.  For the September 23rd early release, students enrolled in SACC can attend after 3:30 PM, but not during the 3-hour early release hours. We will be reaching out to families who indicated they planned to use SACC on 9/23.

Children who remain at school until the regular 3:30 PM dismissal will be supervised by school staff.  Please note that your child will not be with their teacher, as teachers will be participating in required professional development.  During this time, students will be able to work on homework, STMath, Lexia, MyON, independent reading, and other similar activities under supervision.

More information on the September 23rd 3-hour early release program will be included in a mid-week Navy Update.
