Atoms Athletics Recap

Golf's played in tri-match vs Lewis and Justice on Tuesday evening. The Atoms played well and came away with the victory, led by Carter Demers one over par score of 36. The Atoms returned to the course to take on district power TJ. The Atoms gave TJ all they could handle falling just six strokes short in the match. The Atoms showed that they are a team to take serious as they prepare for the National District Championships in a few weeks.

Girls Volleyball traveled to Justice Wednesday evening for a district match vs the Wolves. Freshman and JV continue to improve each day but unfortunately were no match for the Wolves as they were swept in both games. Varsity took to the court and battled the Wolves all night. The Atoms came up short in the first set, falling 25-22. Sets two and three were a little different as the Atoms couldn't get anything going, ultimately losing in three. The Atoms return to the court with a road game at Lewis Monday.

Boys Volleyball coming off their first win traveled to Mount Vernon to play Justice. The Wolves had to gut out a win vs an Atoms team that looks poised to breakout. The Atoms returned to the court to host the Homeschool Team Thursday evening. The Atoms played well but came up short losing 3-1. The team host TJ Monday in a pivotal district game.

Field Hockey had an impressive showing in the Chantilly Tournament last week, going 4-1 overall for the weekend! The Atoms played host in their two games this week. First was Langley on Tuesday evening. The Atoms played tough defense throughout but the Saxons were able to squeeze two late ones to get the 3-0 win. Thursday was the district opener vs TJ. The Atoms showed their power as they rolled to a 7-1 to start 1-0 in the district play. The Atoms hit the road Tuesday to take on Alexandria City.

Football welcome Hayfield to J. Wallace Bolding Stadium Friday evening. The Hawks who looked ready to make a run for a state championship was just too much for the Atoms, running away to get the district win. The Atoms hit the road this week to battle for the Beltway Bowl Trophy at Falls Church.

Boys and Girls Cross Country hit the trail this week at Mason District. The girls were led by Izabella Mercado while the boys were paced by Connor Uzokoff. Both teams continue to show growth as each team recorded better overall times than their previous meet. The Atoms lace up the shoes Wednesday evening with a meet at South Run.

Friday Night Lights Expectations

We host our first home football game on Friday, September 6. As you prepare to attend the game, make sure to read some relevant information for that evening.

  • ALL students will be asked to show their ID or SIS account for entry into the game.
  • No backpacks or other bags will be allowed in the stadium.  (Students and Adults)
  • No outside food or drinks are allowed. The concession stand will be open.
  • Students must plan to have their rides waiting for them at 9:30 pm.
  • The purpose for attending our football games is to watch the game, cheerleaders, band and dance team.
  • We cheer for Annandale and not against our opponent. All cheers should be positive.
  • Students planning to attend a game need to leave campus upon school dismissal and return to cheer on the Atoms.
  • All students must pre-arrange for transportation and plan to leave immediately after the game.
  • Students are expected to be in the stands and not hanging out by the concession stand, bathrooms or other areas; all elementary-aged children must always be supervised by an adult.
  • The stadium is now marked with RED and BLACK fence topping. Any section marked in RED means that you are NOT allowed to stand in that area. This is to help keep our athletes safe and the walkways in front of the bleachers clear.
  • Anyone who leaves may not re-enter, even with a ticket stub or pass.
  • Whistles and similar noisemakers are prohibited.

All elementary and middle school students need a parent/guardian to enter and need to be supervised by an adult while at the game.  Any elementary or middle school student in violation of this policy will have parents called immediately and are subject to being excluded from future extracurricular events and ticket money will not be refunded.

Atoms Boosters Concession Stand Help

Attention Parents! Volunteers are needed to sell concessions at games throughout the year, starting with fall sports Football and Volleyball. We welcome any and all parents to volunteer but when parents of a particular sport work a game, a portion of concessions sales directly benefit that team. If you are not able to help directly at home games, there are many ways you can get involved with the Atoms Athletics Boosters by attending our monthly meetings or being a team liaison. Thank you for your support for Atom’s Athletics!

For questions about concession stand sign ups, contact Odessa Murray.

To obtain your driver’s license in Virginia, you must successfully complete, or pass, the classroom portion of driver education. You must also attend a 90-minute parent-teen traffic safety program, Partners for Safe Teen Driving, or PSTD, with a parent or legal guardian. Annandale High School is hosting five (5) PSTD presentations this school year, one each quarter and two during the fourth quarter. They are free to students enrolled in Health & PE 10 at Annandale HS and begin at 630pm in the auditorium. You must attend with a parent or legal guardian, arrive ON TIME, and remain the duration of the presentation for your attendance to be verified.
