Message from Mr. Greata
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Back to School Night this past Tuesday! It was a delight to connect with so many families and witness the wonderful interactions among students, staff, parents, and guardians. From classroom visits to spirit wear and our collaborative weaving project, it was truly a memorable evening.
For those who attended, I hope you had a chance to pick up our refrigerator sheet, designed to keep families connected. It includes QR codes to our most frequented sites, such as the all-new Cav Kiosk, and a calendar with our return period schedule. The Cav Kiosk is now accessible to both students and families and is your go-to source for up-to-date information, including details on what to wear during Spirit Weeks. You can also click here to download an electronic version, or visit our main office to pick up a hard copy on cardstock.
A special thank you to Leslie O’Shaughnessy for organizing and leading our collaborative weaving project, commemorating our school's name change to Carter G. Woodson High School. The weave is coming together beautifully, and students are still welcome to contribute by visiting classroom E160. Stay tuned for more information about our rededication ceremony on October 23, 2024, and be sure to watch our new “What's In A Name?” video on our school history webpage.
I’d also like to recognize two outstanding students, Valerie Gutierrez and Miranda Baxter, for presenting information about our clubs and organizations during Back to School Night. They shared that the most common question was, "How can I join a club if I missed the interest meeting?" Please visit our club webpage for a list of clubs and sponsors, or explore club options on Instagram.
As Hispanic Heritage Month begins this Sunday, Carter G. Woodson High School joins the entire FCPS community in celebrating the rich histories and cultures of our members who trace their heritage to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. Don’t miss the beautiful display case put together by Woodson Spanish teacher Katrina Cohen and our student volunteers, which you can see in this week’s Woodson Weekly.
Finally, tonight our Woodson football team will travel to Oakton High School for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff. We’re anticipating a "Blizzard Out," so don’t forget to wear white and get lost in the excitement! Tomorrow, our girls volleyball team will compete in an invitational at Alexandria City High School. For match times, please visit our Athletics website.
Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable weekend!

Thank you to all of the families that made it to Back to School Night on Tuesday! If you weren't able to attend, but would like our refrigerator handout of helpful information, please stop by the Main Office.
🩹Immunization Requirements
Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.

You may check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to Woodson's Main Office or emailed to both our Registrar Ms. Sheppard dmsheppard@fcps.edu and SIA Ms. Delaney cdelaney@fcps.edu.
Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to us, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:
- A healthcare provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
- A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
- A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with religious tenets or practices.
