Stenwood Hive Happenings

Hive Happenings Newsletter

Dear Stenwood Families,

We returned to a 5-day week in the Hive and we capped it off with a really exciting Friday! We had our first CARES Pizza Lunch of the school year today. A student from every class was recognized and celebrated for the cooperation they show everyday. We also had our first SCA Spirit Day of the school year and it was a Stenwood Spirit Day. The Hive was especially spirited today with lots of blue and yellow!

Each SCA Spirit Day this year will take place on the same day as our Hive Family meetings. We held our second Hive Family meetings of the school year today. The purpose of today’s meeting was to get to know each other better and find similarities with a partner in the Hive. You can ask your child some of these questions:

  • What connections did you make with other kids in your Hive Family?
  • What activity did you do together? Who did you work with?
  • What can you tell me about your Hive Family staff member? What’s their name?

If they can’t answer these just yet, that’s okay! We are just getting started. Next month, we will send information home with your child that will connect you with their staff member so that you know who they are.

Our first Early Release Monday is just over a week away on Monday, September 23rd, 2024. This Monday we will be sending out confirmation emails to all families confirming what your child will be doing on the 23rd.  Please look out for this email and let us know if there is an error.  It is really important to us to make sure that we have everyone going where they need to go and when they need to leave.  Please email us directly if you have a change that needs to be made to your selection.

Tonight is the PTA Ice Cream Social. The weather looks great! We hope to see many of you tonight for yummy ice cream, dancing, and lots of fun from 5:30-7:30 PM.

Power of Words Community Night

On Thursday, September 26th from 6:00-7:30 PM, Stenwood will host our first ever Power of Words Community Night in the cafeteria. Stenwood Administration and members of Stenwood’s Region leadership will present the content from our Power of Words assemblies and discussions that began last year in 3rd through 6th grade. These lessons will continue this year in those same grades. We invite all of our community to hear about this work. There will also be time for those in attendance to share about their experience and perspectives.

Advanced Academic Program (AAP) Information Sessions

On Friday, September 20th, Mrs. Hartman, our AART, will lead the first of two information sessions about the Advanced Academic Program (AAP) from 8:45 - 9:30 AM in the cafeteria. This session will focus on the Continuum of Service in FCPS.  This is a general overview of the Levels of Service available to students in K-6. All families are welcome to attend. Please feel free to join us.

There will be a second session on the Level IV (Full-Time) services and screening process on Friday, October 11th at 8:45AM.  Full-time AAP Services begin in 3rd grade, with the screening process happening in 2nd grade.  All families are welcome to attend, however the information is geared more towards families with students in 2nd grade and up.

🤒 Attendance: When a Student Should Stay Home From School

Whether students miss school because of illness or any other reason, missing school leads to learning loss.

Help your child succeed by encouraging them to attend as many days as possible, but do make sure your child stays home if they are sick. Visit FCPS’ website for information on when to keep your child at home.

If your child has a chronic illness, make sure to notify their teacher so that support can be provided if needed. Also, keep an open line of communication with your school's public health staff.

Read about how families can help form good attendance habits. Attend today, achieve tomorrow!
