Roadrunner Rundown

September 9, 2024

Principal's Message

Dear Marshall Road Families,

We hope you enjoyed the lovely weather over the weekend.

We are planning for the first 3-hour early release on September 23 and need to know if your child will be going home at 1:05 pm or 4:05 pm.  If you have not already done so, please complete this form ASAP which covers the first two release Mondays, September 23 and October 28, to help us prepare for our child care needs.  If you have multiple children, you will need to submit multiple forms

Much peace.

Matthew Chapman, Toni Nauflett, and Kelly Willis

School Events and Information

Immunization Requirements

Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia.  Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.  To clarify, this date applies to NEWLY enrolled students or PRE-EXISTING enrolled students who have been contacted by their Registrar as being NON-COMPLIANT with required vaccines.

How Families Can Help with Attendance

  • Make school attendance a priority.  Parents can log into the Student Information System (SIS) Parent Account to view your child's attendance. For additional support with accessing and using the SIS Parent Account visit our SIS Parent Account overview page.
  • Help your student stay engaged.  View handouts for families from AttendanceWorks.
  • Communicate with the school.  If parents are aware of a future absence, such as a full day absence for a civic engagement activity (middle or high school) or cultural observance, they may contact the school to report the absence and related date.  Extended absences, typically for hardship reasons, must be documented and submitted to the school principal at least three to five school days in advance for review and action. Food4Thought (F4T) Food Drive

The Marshall Road weekend food program, F4T, is resuming in September. We need items to sustain our support for families throughout the school year. Each week, Marshall Road volunteers will pack nearly 70 weekend food packs to help support children experiencing food insecurity.  If you can help students in our community with a donation, we would be most grateful.  See the flyer for more information.

Items can be placed in the F4T bin in the lobby by students during the week of September 9-13.  Items can also be donated via our Amazon or Walmart wishlists.

Advanced Academic Programs (AAP) Screening Procedures

Each fall, elementary Advanced Academic Resource Teachers (AARTs) hold family information meetings to explain the continuum of services, the screening process for Full-Time AAP, and a brief overview of AAP opportunities beyond elementary school.  The meeting for Marshall Road families will be held on Tuesday, October 8 at 6:00 pm.

The newsletter articles contain information about AAP services, ability testing, screening, and the annual parent referral deadline for Full-Time AAP services (translations below).  Additional details, including the Fall Newsletter article and translations, can be found on the AAP Hub page under the section “Screening and Identification”.
