 Early Release Mondays

We appreciate your patience as we worked collaboratively within our community to finalize the details of FCPS’ elementary early release Mondays, which start next Monday, September 16th.

Please see important updates below:

Early Release Monday Dates The complete list of dates, which are based on your child’s school pyramid, is available on FCPS’ Limited Early Release Mondays webpage

Confirm Your Student’s Plans for September 16 and 23                                 If you haven’t filled out the survey yet, please use the following link: https://forms.gle/Phd28vSqEmWHApqj7 Schools will be in touch with all families to confirm which students are going home during the early release and which students will be staying at school.

After-School Activities Students who stay at school between early release and regular dismissal will not be with their regular teacher and will not receive instruction during this time. Instead, they will be supervised by other school staff, substitute teachers, or central office staff. Students will participate in after-school activities which might include:

  • Quiet time/independent reading/listening
  • Completion of missed schoolwork/homework
  • Laptop time (ST Math, Myon, Lexia.)
  • Library rotation
  • Recess/snack Students are encouraged to bring an extra snack.

Support for Students with Disabilities A separate email for students with IEPs or 504s was distributed from FCPS last week to address support for students with disabilities.

School-Age Child Care (SACC) Students SACC will operate during their regularly scheduled hours on early release Mondays. Students who typically attend SACC can be supervised by FCPS staff until SACC opens for their regular afternoon hours.

If SACC becomes available to provide supervision during the early release, we will update families immediately.

Dismissal: Transportation will offer two full bus dismissal runs (12:30 and 3:30).

Please visit the FCPS website for additional information about early release Mondays. Thank you for supporting all that our teachers do to provide an excellent education for our students.

If you have any additional questions please reach out to Principal Smith at  AJSmith@fcps.edu

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) believes in supporting social and emotional learning (SEL) for all students. In FCPS, students use a tool called the SEL Screener to think about their own SEL skills and experiences at school. Franconia students in grades 3-6 will be participating in the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener in the Fall and Spring.

After each screening, results are available in the Documents tab of SIS ParentVUE and mailed to families without a ParentVUE account. Parents/guardians may request that their student not participate in the SEL Screener on an annual basis. They can do this via the Parent Digital Consent System OR by completing the Fairfax County Social Emotional Learning Screener Opt-Out Request Form and returning it to the student’s teacher or counselor.  For more information about the SEL Screener including information on opting out please see the Parent Notification Letter.  You can also learn more on the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Screener webpage.

Pop tops for RMHC

Franconia Elementary School is proud to partner with Ronald McDonald House Charities!

We are asking our school community to help by collecting soda pop tabs (the tabs from aluminum cans). Please save these tabs and bring them to school. There will be a collection bin set up in the gym where you can deposit your tabs.

Once the bin is full, Franconia Elementary will deliver the tabs to the local Ronald McDonald House Charities. This small act of recycling can make a big difference for families in need.

For more details, please refer to this flyer.

Thank you for your support and participation!
