Safety Reminders When Visiting Oak View
Oak View prioritizes the safety of our students and staff. All school visitors must enter schools by way of Door 1, located at front of building, under large overhang. During school day (after 8:30 and before 3:00), families can park facing straight in at the front bus loop. Upon ringing a school’s front doorbell, visitors will be asked to identify the reason for their visit before the door is opened. All school visitors will need to check in to the school visitor system in the front office before entering the school. This visitor management system requires visitor to scan identification (driver's license, passport, etc.).
When outside, visitors are not permitted to visit school buses or playgrounds or to observe students from parking lots or other areas on school campuses.
Thank you for your help keeping all of our students safe at school.

OV PTA Partners with iCode for Back to School Night (BTSN) Child Care
OV PTA has partnered with iCode Burke to provide a child care option for families during Oak View Back to School Nights! This was a tremendously popular fundraiser/parent night option last year and now they have coupled it with our Back To School Night to provide even more opportunities for families! Portions of the proceeds will come back to the OV PTA and contribute to the opening year accounts and activities! Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
Oak View Celebrates Blue Star Welcome Week
Blue Star Welcome Week is a nationwide initiative to ensure military families feel a sense of belonging to their school communities. Oak View will celebrate and acknowledge Blue Star Welcome Week from September 23 - 27.
We invite Oak View military connected families to join us on Wednesday, September 25, from 8 – 8:30 a.m. in our cafeteria. We will offer a small refreshment, share information, and celebrate your service. Parking will be limited at this time of morning and only available in parking spaces. The bus loop is not available at this time for parking.
Please RSVP if attending here and if you cannot join us, please consider eating lunch in the cafeteria with your child during this week! Thank you for your service!

OV Birthday Recognition
Oak View student birthdays are important to us and are recognized in a variety of ways:
1) Name on morning announcement
2) Birthday Post-card and pencil from Admin Team
3) Optional - Birthday Book Donation to OV Library (see below)
Families are welcome to celebrate with their child by coming to lunch. We ask that families refrain from bringing any food. Birthday treats are not permitted at Oak View. We have numerous students with serious and life-threatening allergies and do not allow for any food celebrations outside of pre-planned class parties, two times per school year. Thank you for providing a safe and celebratory environment for all students.
If you do not celebrate birthdays in your family and prefer your child is not recognized, please email your child's teacher.

Upcoming Student Birthday? Consider a Birthday Book Donation to OV Library
Does your child have an upcoming birthday? We invite you to donate a book to our school library in your child’s honor during their birthday month! The book you purchase will receive a bookplate inside indicating the book was purchased in honor of your child’s birthday. Please see current wish list and book purchasing guidelines listed in Friday Folder Flyer linked here.
You are also welcome to purchase the book from any local bookstore. Bard’s Alley, Scrawl Books, and One More Page Books would all be willing to order and ship books.
If you wish to purchase something not on this list, please email our school librarian, Mrs. Atkins first (mfatkins@fcps.edu). All books in the library must follow the acquisitions guidelines from FCPS.
This is a completely optional activity and one we thank you for considering. All student birthdays are recognized at Oak View through their name on the morning announcements and a post card and birthday pencil from administration. Oak View does not permit food celebrations due to severe and life-threatening food allergies.

The 2023-30 Strategic Plan — Goal 1: Strong Start, Pre-K-12
The 2023-30 strategic plan sets five main goals to create positive change in FCPS. These goals show where we should focus our attention and will help us align our efforts.
Each goal has an equity commitment — the promise we make to every student to support them in attaining these goals. Each goal also has several measures that allow us to track our progress.
The first goal in the strategic plan focuses on each and every student having a strong start in FCPS. Whether they're joining us in preschool or in high school, we want our students to be set up for success. See how Goal 1 is being put into practice.

Immunization Requirements - DUE September 30
Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You may check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to your school’s front office.
Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to your school’s front office, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:
- A health care provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
- A health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
- A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with their religious tenets or practices.
Find more information on immunizations.

Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.
Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.
Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity
FCPS has tools to help parents know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided at no cost to families by Lightspeed, the school division’s internet content filtering service.
Parents may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites their child visited. The report also offers parents the ability to sign up for free access to the Internet Use Parent Portal. Through the portal, parents may pause their child’s access to the internet on their FCPS device during non-school hours.
Learn more about Lightspeed Parent Reports.
