Our girl scouts led plastic recycling efforts last year and got two new benches for our school.

Girl Scout Bench

Congratulations to Willow Springs' Junior Girl Scout Troop 54063 for completing their Bronze Award Project. They collected and recycled more than 1,000 pounds of plastic to meet the Trex Company Challenge. The Trex Company uses plastic film to create landscape timbers and furniture like the bench in front of our school. Our Girl Scouts learned a great deal about how plastic film decomposes and turns into micro-plastics that pollute air and waterways around the world. They originally were seeking ways to provide benches for our school, but they also wanted to help stop the dangerous plastic pollution. They provided two benches -- one that they built of wood for the field, and the other Trex Bench for Willow Springs' front door.

A Note from the Principal's Desk

Dear Willow Springs families,

This week we completed our 4th week of school. In addition to all the learning taking place, we also had our first PTA meeting and had both a fire drill and a lockdown drill. Our PTA already has many school-wide special events planned, and next week we will send you information on those dates and events. We will also participate in the Boosterthon Fun Run again this year. Stay tuned for all the details!

We are so proud of our Girl Scout troop for their plastic recycling efforts last year and are thankful for the new benches they are providing our school.

Coming up soon is the first early release Monday of the year. That will take place on Monday, September 23rd. Students will be dismissed at 1:00 PM. If you haven't already completed the survey, please see the email from your child's teacher and complete the survey ASAP so we can plan effectively.

We hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!
