Notes from the Nest
In our SEES school community, we S.O.A.R., meaning that we demonstrate: Support, Optimism, Acceptance, and Responsibility.
Dear SEES Community,
What a fantastic week it has been at SEES! Our students continue to S.O.A.R. (Supportive, Optimistic, Accepting, Responsible) and make us proud. We've had some exciting developments this week, including the construction of our new Pre-School Playground! It is almost ready and we are super excited to celebrate the opening with our littlest Eagles.
As we move forward, please mark your calendars for Picture Day on September 12th. Don't forget to wear your favorite outfit for this special occasion!
We are also excited to announce our upcoming Back-to-School Night on September 25th. This important event provides an opportunity for you to learn about your child's class, grade level curriculum, and expectations.
Please note our session times:
- Group 1 (Families with multiple students at SEES): 4:45-5:30 PM
- Group 2 (Families with only one child at SEES or those attending two different sessions): 5:45-6:30 PM
We encourage families with multiple students to attend the first session to help with parking and crowding.
We look forward to seeing you all at our PTA meeting on September 11th and continuing to build a strong and supportive community at SEES.
Go Eagles!
Sincerely,
April Martin Proud Principal

From the SEES PTA
The SEES PTA Board welcomes you to the 2024-2025 school year! We are so excited about our plans to support the staff and students at SEES!
Thank you to everyone who has already joined the PTA this year! If you haven’t joined yet, it’s not too late! You can sign up online, by using the QR code on the flyer in today’s Friday Folder, or by sending the flyer back to SEES with your payment – just $10 per family!
We are getting the school year started with before and after school computer classes through our partnership with STEM exCEL! For these programs to continue to be successful, a PTA representative is required at every session. Their job is to chaperone the students while they participate in the class, making sure students are staying in the cafeteria and following school rules while the class is taking place. The PTA representative will make sure each student is picked up by a parent for the afternoon classes. Everyone who volunteers for this role will be entered in to a drawing for a free SEES sweatshirt this fall! Please email our PTA President, Ashley Doss, at ashley.n.doss1@gmail.com to sign up!
Immunization Requirements
Please check with your health care provider as soon as possible to make sure your child is up to date on the immunizations required by the state of Virginia. Starting Monday, September 30, students who have not provided proof of immunization will not be allowed to attend school.
You may check your child’s immunization compliance and submit their immunization record in SIS ParentVUE. Records may also be delivered to your school’s front office.
Alternative immunization documents (below) may also be provided to your school’s front office, but they may not be uploaded in ParentVUE:
- A health care provider’s written statement specifying all administered immunizations.
- A health care provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
- A notarized Religious Exemption form objecting to the administration of immunizations due to conflicts with their religious tenets or practices.
Find more information on immunizations.
Make Every Day Count! The Importance of Attendance
As you plan upcoming trips and other family events, please remember the importance of sending your child to school every day. Review the FCPS School Year Calendar and try to plan any time away during breaks from school.
Children who show up for school regularly develop fundamental reading and math skills while building a habit of good attendance that will carry them into college and careers. Research shows that children who were chronically absent (missing 18 days or more) in kindergarten and first grade were far less likely to read proficiently at the end of third grade.
Learn how families can help form good attendance habits.
Blue Star Welcome Week
Family and School Partnerships has created a toolkit to help you prepare for Blue Star Welcome Week, which takes place this year from Saturday, September 21, to Sunday, September 29.
There are approximately 13,500 military-connected students enrolled in FCPS. One-third of our military families transition into or out of our district each year. Blue Star Welcome Week allows schools to welcome and connect with their military families. The goal is to create a sense of belonging and ensure our military families feel celebrated and welcomed into their school communities.
