Churchill Chatter - Issue 2, September 9, 2024

Dear Churchill Road Families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the PTA’s movie night this past Friday. This week we began our first round of grade-level community conversations.  We hope many of you will be able to join us as these continue into next week.

Starting next Monday, the PTA and Chatter newsletters will be sent out biweekly on alternating Mondays, beginning September 16 with the PTA. The next Churchill Chatter will go out on September 23.

We will be sending an email to the community reminding about safe arrival and dismissal practices.  Safety of students is foremost, and we want our entire community to follow these practices to keep everyone safe.  Please pay special attention to this email.

Thank you to everyone for responding to the three hour early release after-school survey.  The first early release Monday is coming up September 23.  Later this week, you will be getting a follow-up email confirming your response as to how your students will be going home. Should there be any changes, please follow the directions in this email.

As a reminder, the dates for the Three Hour Early Release Mondays are as follows: 9/23, 10/28, 12/9 (change from 11/25), 2/24, 3/17, 4/28 and 5/19

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cherith Pierson-Barr

Meet Churchill Road's New Family Liaison

Hi Churchill Road family!

My name is Nisha Bhatia, and I am your go-to new Family Liaison. I am so excited to be part of the working team at CRS!

I was born and raised in India where I received a degree in Chemistry and my passion for business and communication led me to pursue a master’s in marketing.

When I am not navigating family dynamics, you can find me indulging in my passion for cooking, traveling to new destinations and discovering this beautiful country, or at times pursuing my passion for classical music. I also love to make music with my son who likes playing the piano.

I have been living in this area for the past three years and am a proud mother of two boys. My elder son is a third grader at CRS while my younger one is a toddler. As a parent I understand the importance of fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for our children. Additionally, I am an active volunteer with the Department of Family Services at Fairfax County, where I have had the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of children.

I look forward to knowing you all and team up to create a supportive and thriving community for our kids and families. You can reach out to me with any questions you may have at: nbhatia1@fcps.edu

Ability Testing Retake Request Deadlines

FCPS uses ability testing as one consideration of the holistic screening process for advanced academic services. Test scores are not weighted or prioritized in the holistic screening process.

  • All students in Grade 1 take the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT).
  • All students in Grade 2 take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).
  • NNAT and/or CogAT may be administered to students in Grades 3-6 who do not have an ability test score during the regularly scheduled testing windows.

Parents or guardians may request a one-time retest of either the CogAT or the NNAT in grades 3-6. Requests must be made during the fall testing windows. Please contact the school testing coordinator, Nick Kilpatrick (nfkilpatrick@fcps.edu), no later than September 30 to request the CogAT, or October 15 to request the NNAT.
