Message from Mr. Greata
We kicked off the weekend in the best way possible with our first Cav Kudos, where we recognized 8 outstanding students who went above and beyond to build our community through kindness, citizenship, and service. A big thank you to Debbie Glover for organizing this incredibly important program. To see the students who were recognized, please visit our student recognition page!
We had a fantastic turnout at the first PTSO meeting this past Tuesday. I’d like to extend my gratitude to Sara Mastro, Nicole Spindler, Amy Zganjar, Megan Fay, Judith Cabelli, and Diane Raffaele for stepping up to lead this vital group. During the meeting, we reviewed the amazing support the PTSO provides to our school, which directly benefits both teachers and students. One of the highlights is the grant program, which offers thousands of dollars in additional assistance for needs identified by teachers and club sponsors. These grants are crucial, as they often address needs that the school budget simply cannot cover.
We are still actively seeking families and staff to join the PTSO. Membership serves as the fundamental fundraiser for the PTSO, and the more members we have, the more we can do to support the school. If you haven’t joined yet, I encourage you to strongly consider becoming a member. #OneWoodson
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome you to our Back to School Night this coming Tuesday, September 10th. Events will begin at 5:00 PM, and classroom visits will start at 6:00 PM. This year, we’re offering a Family Help Center in the Library, where you can get connected, and there will be many opportunities for you to stay connected located in the auditorium. Families, check your email for all the details about Back to School Night.
All families will leave Back to School Night with a resource sheet for the refrigerator that has quick links to all the important resources. Most prominent is our now public facing Cav Kiosk!
Lastly, don’t forget that we are hosting Chantilly High School tonight, for what is going to be a great football game! It’s a Gold Out in recognition of Pediatric Cancer Awareness, so wear your solid gold outfit. The game will be followed by our Cav Kickoff Dance for students.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Kevin Greata Principal

Schedule Change Requests
The schedule change request window is now closed.
Over the past two weeks, students have had the opportunity to request a schedule change via our google form and we received about 500 requests. Counselors are continuing to process requests submitted by 3pm on September 6th in the order in which they were received.
For requests submitted on September 6th, those will be processed on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Students will receive an email from their counselor to their FCPSschools.net account to update them on the status of their change request and whether it could be accommodated or not.
Going forward, any schedule change requests will need to come from a staff member (either a teacher or counselor) and will be made in consultation with the student and their parent/guardian. For any questions about specific classes, please contact your child’s teacher directly. For any general questions related to scheduling or anything else, please feel free to contact your child's counselor.
Students receive the first Cav Kudos of the 2024-2025 school year.
Faculty and Staff nominate students that have been seen doing an act of kindness, which is reflective of our school’s mission of creating a healthy environment of mutual respect, responsibility, equity, and inclusion.
Digital Resources Consent Form
Please make sure you have signed the Digital Resources Consent Form this school year. Without consent, students will not have access to many instructional tools in the classroom. Families can log in to the PDC using their ParentVUE credentials to complete consent forms assigned to their child.

October 31 from 8:30-12:05pm.
We are looking for guest speakers! Each speaker will share how they got started, successes, challenges, and what skills they use on the job today. Our goal is for students to learn more about the multitude of career options available to them and to make connections between the careers and our Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes that emphasize life skills such as communication, collaboration, resilience, citizenship, and critical and creative thinking.
Interested speakers should complete the form linked here by Friday, September 20 to confirm your participation.

Counselor Corner
Bookmark our Woodson Student Services padlet to access all of our padlets. To name a few: grade-level padlets with curriculum lessons and post-secondary planning resources, academic support, social/emotional support, and academic advising with graduation requirements and course planning information. With the limits on phone use, students may want to bookmark our Woodson Wellness site to utilize brain breaks during appropriate class time.
Seniors received an email from their counselor this week regarding senior year planning. We hosted Senior Info Night last week and are excited to visit our seniors on September 16 to review all important aspects of navigating senior year. Seniors should bookmark the Senior Padlet and follow the Senior Checklist for requesting transcripts and recommendation letters. We require 15 school days to process transcripts and recommendation letters, which is three weeks and does not include weekends or holidays. Seniors should reference our Senior Next Steps document to guide their senior year planning. If families missed Senior Night, review the slides for helpful resources & information. Notice upcoming dates for events which may be helpful to your student. We are here to support you each step of the way.
With classes in full swing, we want students to know they have Academic support at their fingertips. FCPS now partners with Varsity Tutors for free online tutors and essay support. This and other content help, study skills and test prep resources can be found on our Academic Supports padlet. Students should communicate with their teachers first if they find themselves struggling. Teachers can offer help during their Leaning Seminar period and by appointment if they stay after school. Families, check your student’s organization system and prepare for each week, checking academic progress in ParentVUE weekly.
We were excited to introduce ourselves to our 9th grade students last week during their 3rd period Learning Seminar class. We will see Freshmen again the last week of September for their 9th grade curriculum lesson. We will review graduation requirements, academic integrity and starting high school off well. We will also review wellness resources and how to become involved as a Cavalier. The presentation will be posted on the Freshman padlet for review afterward.
Woodson Athletic Boosters is putting on a Golf Tournament on Monday, September 23rd!

September 11 National Day of Service
With the upcoming 23rd anniversary of September 11, FCPS acknowledges the loss of life, the heroism of our first responders, and the resilience of our country. The September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, also called Patriot Day, is a chance to reflect and act in service to others to honor those who were injured or killed in the terrorist attacks.
All FCPS students are encouraged to participate in service learning as it supports Portrait of a Graduate (POG) attributes and social and emotional learning (SEL) skills. Middle and high school students can learn more about service learning by logging into their Naviance account to access x2VOL.
