green team

Congratulations to our Get2Green Team at Fort Hunt. Ms. Consolla stands with Ms. Gonzalez, Ms. Gray and Ms. Perez who led a variety of environmental projects with students last year. Thanks to their efforts, Fort Hunt is one of the 58 schools in the US that is recognized as a "Green School" by the US National Wildlife Federation. This is the highest level of certification. They will continue the work this year with both returning and new projects inside our school and around our campus. Well done!

Back to School Night

Fort Hunt will host its annual Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 11. This is an opportunity for parents/guardians to visit with their child's teacher(s) and learn ways to communicate with one another, what happens in the classroom and ways to support your child at home.

Doors will open at 6:00pm to the cafeteria where parents can connect with our PTA and specialist teachers. Classrooms will then open after 6:30pm. Teachers will do a total of four presentations: 2 AM class presentations and 2 PM class presentations. More information will come next week.

Kiss & Ride: Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who has helped to make Kiss & Ride a success. As a reminder, it's the safest method for everyone at Fort Hunt. This helps keeps our streets clear so that buses can pass and eliminates the need to cross the street.

Please be a kind and never block the driveway of any home.

Can't I just park at the curb on Linton and drop/pick up my child there?

NO. This is unsafe and blocks the flow of traffic. Our Kiss & Ride lane is the fastest and safest way to drop off/pick up your child.

What about parking on the corners of Toll Bridge? Can I do that? Can I drop off my child there?

NO. Parking on the corners of Toll Bridge blocks traffic in and out of Toll Bridge. We've also seen students crossing there which is very unsafe. Again, use Kiss & Ride for arrival & dismissal.

What can parents do to make Kiss & Ride safe for everyone?

Follow the procedures and directions from staff. Respect the cones. Be kind to staff and one another. Stay calm. Expect that this new procedure will be busy and might not go as smoothly as you like. Allow for extra time to get to your next destination.

Cell Phones Off, Learning On

Please review the following rules for elementary students K-6 around cell phones, smart watches & tablet:

  • Phones must be silenced and in backpacks for the duration of the school day. Cell phones may be used on campus before and after school only.
  • Smart watches that serve a dual purpose may be worn, but the phone features (texting, Internet viewing, and calls) are to be off when phone use is prohibited.
  • Students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms, unless there is a medical necessity or emergency.

Thank you for helping to support the FCPS cell phone policy by waiting to call or text your child about non-urgent matters until the school day is over. In case of an emergency, contact our front office so that we can then pass along the information to your child.

Visit the FCPS Cell Phone Policy webpage to read more about usage policies by grade level and to share your feedback on the current cell phone policy

No Dogs on Campus

Thank you for keeping your dogs off campus. While it's nice to take your dog for a walk to and from school, they are NOT allowed on campus at anytime. This includes after dismissal. No pets are allowed on FCPS school grounds, and this is clearly marked at the driveway entrance. It is a safety issue. We have students who have allergies and fear of animals, and this rule helps ensure they can be safe at school.

Start of the Year Forms and more!

We've created a page with links to all the forms that need to be completed at the start of school. Also included are optional forms and links. Check it out here: https://forthuntes.fcps.edu/start-school-forms

We are honored to work with your family this year and will work everyday to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for your child. We can't do it alone. Please contact us when there is a question or concern, especially related to bullying. As a parent, you will often hear about something before staff might. Thank you for all your support.
