Dear Franklin Sherman Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the four day holiday. We had a packed week with Back to School Night on August 28th. We enjoyed having Dr. Michelle Reid, our Superintendent, join us. She was very impressed with our teachers and your support!
Students are definitely settling into a routine as we gear up for some 5 day weeks ahead. We have our first PTA meeting coming up on 9/18 at 8am. We will be trying some morning meetings this year so that we can see if this time works for parents and we hope to encourage our amazing teachers to join as well.
We also have our first 3 hour early release on 9/27. Please make sure you have filled out the form I sent via Talking Points and the Flash so that we know how many students to expect on this day and can plan for substitutes accordingly to assist with supervision. (https://forms.gle/pAAGTxiBq3QTWYsU9)
Teachers will be using these early release times to complete state mandated reading professional development as well as to have unencumbered planning time.
At the end of this week, we will celebrate our September birthdays! Each student will get to take home a PTA purchased book! I cannot thank this community enough for their support and partnership.

FCPS’ Student Rights and Responsibilities document (SR&R) explains expectations for student behavior and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment. Read Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid’s letter to families regarding the SR&R.
Parents/caregivers should talk to their child(ren) about expectations for this school year. Also, please log in to SIS ParentVUE and sign to acknowledge your review of the SR&R, or sign and return the signature sheet to your child’s school by Monday, September 30.

Franklin Sherman’s Get2Green group (formally known as The Green Panda) is resuming its activities this school year. It is an Eco Club where students learn about the environment and how to be better stewards of it. Trees, native plants, rain barrels, composting, food waste, energy, gardening, enjoying nature and the outdoors are some of the subjects that we cover during our time together.
If you would like your child to be part of this group, please fill out the Get2Green Interest Form so we know what your availability is.
Also, send your child to collect a permission slip from Mrs. Essimi, in the library for you to sign by the end of the week.
For questions or additional information, please contact Mrs. Essimi (rmessimimen@fcps.edu); Mrs. Michalski (rlmichalski@fcps.edu) or Mrs. Eaton (lreaton@fcps.edu).
